Each political party, outlines its method and strategy of achieving what the country wants.
Britain is a welfare state. The politics is about competing ways of achieving an affective and affordable welfare state.
Nigeria has no political philosophy or ideology. Its politics is about different ideologies which the people have not accepted, but which the politicians promise. Some are pushing for Islamic state while others are not sure how to pursue free market with human face.
Therefore, every election in Nigeria is a lottery, where the only winners are the politicians.
Nothing changes for the people and their faith in their own country and future diminishes, while the confidence of the politicians in exploiting the country grows.
The politicians become more audacious in their corruption and arrogance because they know that the people do not matter and have no means to hold them to account.
The big question remains, how should good Nigerians go about changing the status quo and the system that continues to produce the Buharis, the Tinubus, the Akpabios, the Sarakis, the Wikes etc. This, I believe, is the real problem that demands solution.
Obi offers hope. He is not perfect, but if Nigerians rally around him to ensure that what he represents takes root, there may be a future for Nigeria after all.
