By Patrick Omorodion

Nigeria’s female cyclists have continued to dominate at the African Track Championships holding in Cairo, Egypt, after three days of competition.

In the Women Junior Sprints event, Nigeria’s Osaretin Godwin clinched the gold medal, showcasing exceptional speed and skill/ while Olympian Ese Ukpeseraye settled for the silver in the Women Elite Sprints, this demonstrating Nigeria’s strong presence in track cycling.

Meanwhile, Team Nigeria has qualified for the final of the Women’s Junior Individual Pursuits, indicating a promising performance in this discipline.

Technical Director of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN), Bashir Mohammed, said that the team’s qualification for the Women Junior Individual Pursuits finals adds to their medal prospects.

“This performance is consistent with Nigeria’s growing reputation in track cycling, having previously beaten strong opponents like South Africa and Egypt in the 2021 African Cycling Track Championship,” he stressed.

“With these impressive results, Nigeria’s cycling team is poised to make a significant impact at the championships,” he said, adding, ‘The team’s progress will be worth monitoring as the competition unfolds.”
