By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta

The Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday, arraigned the suspended Olorile of Orile Ifo, Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, for assaulting a 73-year-old man, Elder Abraham Areola.

The suspended monarch was arraigned on three counts charges of conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

According to the Force Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspended Oba was granted bail after pleading not guilty to offences.

It was gathered that he was granted bail on liberal terms of N5m with two sureties in the like sum.

The case has been adjourned to March 6 for a hearing.

The traditional ruler was on Monday suspended by the Ogun State government in collaboration with Egba Traditional Council.

Oba Ogunjobi, a former police officer, was captured in a viral video physically assaulting the old man, alongside his accomplices whose faces were also not captured in the video.

In the video, he accused Elder Areola of an alleged betrayer with one Wasiu while cursing the old man severely.

When the man told the suspended Oba that he was killed, he threatened to bury him without traces if he died during the torture.

Oba Ogunjobi, who has earlier denied being the person in the video, according to the Committee for Human Rights, confessed at the Eleweran headquarters of Ogun State police command.

He was also said to be begging the victim with a plot of land.

The Oba was said to be using his influence as a former police officer and that of his wife identified as Officer Veronica serving at FCID, Alagbon, to threaten the peace of Orile Ifo.

There is a deep chasm between existing and truly living. To exist is to wake up, work, eat, sleep, and repeat-a cycle that satisfies the flesh but starves the soul.
