Nigeria’s U-20 football team, the Flying Eagles, successfully defended their WAFU B U20 title with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ghana on Wednesday at the Stade de Kegue in Lome, Togo.
The thrilling match saw Nigeria dominate the first half, thanks to two impressive goals from Kparobo Arierhi.
The first goal came in the 35th minute as Arierhi finished a well-orchestrated move, and he doubled the lead just before halftime.
Ghana managed to pull one back in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to topple the Flying Eagles, who claimed a well-deserved victory.
Wednesday’s win follows Nigeria’s 3-1 semifinal victory over Niger Republic, securing their spot in the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, commended the team’s performance and resilience throughout the tournament.
“The NFF is delighted with their performance. We believe they have what it takes to go all the way and successfully defend their title,” Gusau said.
Under Coach Aliyu Zubair, the Flying Eagles showcased skill and determination, bouncing back from an initial loss to Burkina Faso and going on a winning streak to clinch the title.
With their sights now set on the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, the team has sparked excitement and hope among Nigerian football fans.
