"Working in love (and religion) is not a subscription to foolishness." - Dr. Pastor Abel Damina. Ebi ní npa ?`l?, èpè ni npa olè, ay?` àti ag?` ni npa aláy?`p?`r?´. - Yahaya Balogun (rough translation: Hunger kills lazy persons, curse kills thieves, and spoil kills nonchalant people).
We might think Nigerian problems don't directly affect some of us in the diaspora; we are indirectly in Nigerian needless mess together. People play and deceive themselves too much in Nigeria. It seems a futile exercise to fight for a population that has a seemingly unsolvable propensity for deliberate ignorance, laziness, and religious stupidity like our people. The Nigerian forty thieves are wrapped in the hypocrisy of religion and politics.
To paraphrase Mr. Adabale Ayodele's message to me recently: they (Colonial masters and their religious agents of neocolonialism) know how intoxicating religious dogma can influence the foolishness of the black race, which may be due to their misunderstanding of us during slavery. Because whatever colonial masters and their current agents in clerics say is always right, the gullible people are not conditioned to investigate, inquire, think, and ask questions. So they behave this way today. Northern Nigeria is a good example. Go and listen to Fela's Zombie record. It's the best description of us. How would you feel when you go back home, and your old friends and family idolize you because you live in America? Does that change you as a person? Haven't you seen many of our leaders when they came to the United States? They conform and follow the rules and regulations. Still, the moment they land at Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, they become arrogant and foolish - reverting to their true "do-you-know-who-I am" haughty and arrogant selves.
Nigeria is in a needless situation that saddens my heart. What is going on in the collective mindset of our people in Africa cum Nigeria, particularly in religious circles? Is it a curse? A church borrows 1 billion Naira to build an unproductive magnificent structure, and parcels of virgin farmland are used for prayer cities and sanctuaries instead of producing farm goods and produce for local and international consumption. Yet there's no outrage and condemnation. And they want Tinubu or any previous government to perform economic magic with this daunting national dilemma and hypocrisy?
Sadly, Nigeria, from the start of nationhood, is a country of immoral recycling. We have failed woefully to face reality. Those of us with patriotic zeal usually forget that politicians, militaricians, and religious leaders have sinister ways of manipulating the mental structure of their gullible followers. Ironically, we get carried away by patriotism, populism, nationalism, and humanity in us. Yet we get hated by those whom we fight on their behalf. The use of religious extremism as a catalyst in the pursuit of heaven and prosperity is as dangerous as a weapon of mass destruction. These religious charlatans have destroyed a lot of Nigerian homes through religious extremism and self-serving worldly prosperity. You seldom hear the gospel of salvation in church values; instant gratification and earthly prosperity have dwarfed eternal salvation.
Be advised that the prevailing Nigerian situation goes beyond the current Tinubu administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or past governments; it's a national burden. If Atiku were hypothetically the president, with the current moral miasma, Nigeria would still be full of many malfeasance behaviors and religious mercantilism. So sad! A nation without the rule of law is bound to face multifaceted malpractices and problems. Suffice it to say that some unscrupulous Nigerians face the criminal justice system in America because of shady and fraudulent behaviors. These ungodly but religious people are the people you see at the forefront of religion in Nigeria. Unfortunately for them, America is not Nigeria. America is a nation of laws and consequences. If you don't want to spend time in prison, don't commit the crimes in Uncle Sam's Homeland. It is that simple!
With gullibility, has anyone discerned the incursion of Obasanjo and Babangida into the political amnesia of Nigerians? Surreptitiously, Mr. Tortoise is again, with rudderless, encroaching on Nigeria's future polity. This is outrageous! If cunning and unhinged Mr. Tortoise remains in Nigeria's morally deficient equation and dysfunctional political activities, our people will continue celebrating mediocrity instead of meritocracy. The activities of these past leaders are why Nigerians will continue to be ruled and raped by their tormentors. Celebrating men who brought Nigeria down to its knees isn't only disingenuous but embarrassing and ridiculous. I am stunned at how people celebrate the mediocrity of people like ?b?ra Obasanjo, evil genius IBB, poisonous Abdulsalam, and other rapers of the Nigerian future. Where are Nigerian rage and outbursts? Nigerians absolutely deserve the kind of politicians, religious bigots, and politicians that lead them.
Meanwhile, any nation that doesn't produce but consumes every human consumption is doomed to go through Nigeria's current situation. Ours is a chronic national ignorance and religious bigotry. Our ugly situation cuts across ethnic groups, religious or cultural backgrounds. It is a national malaise. Poverty, resentment, jealousy, misappropriation of culture, absence of the rule of law, greed, and misapplication of religion are significant contributions to our country's problems. Until Nigerians change their religious hypothesis of hypocrisy and antisocial values—bring Jesus or Muhammad to come and govern Nigeria, Nigerians won't allow them to succeed.
