2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS:
FACTUAL ANALYSES AND MY ENDORSEMENT (15)

Continued from Part 14

Whatever you condemn, you have done yourself (Georg Groddeck)

All reformers, however strict their social conscience, live in houses just as big as they can pay for (Logan Pearsall Smith)

As no roads are so rough as those that have just been mended, so no sinners are so intolerant as those that have just turned saints (Charles Caleb Colton)

What is this opposition in Nigeria? You must know Nigerian history. Nigeria cannot be governed by an aggregate of pain, anger and frustration (Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State)

uhari might not be who Nigerians think he is! Mr. Discipline might not be that afterall, if recent happenings are the yardsticks to evaluate or judge him. Figuratively, my people say that "these are not the legs the cattle will use in reaching Garki (Ihea abughi ukwu Nama ji eru Garki)". How can Nigerians trust a liar, deceiver and forger as their president? Buhari has disappeared in London without a trace. He was billed to speak to his supporters, but, only his wife was there to address the people. The supporters rushed pell-mell into the hotel only to be told that Buhari wasn't coming, as "he had other engagements elsewhere". The news was that those who thronged the venue, Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster, were disappointed as Buhari who is supposed to be in the UK on a working visit was not present. Instead, he was represented by his wife, Hajiya Aishatu Buhari, who was accompanied by Dolapo Osibanjo, the spouse of the party's vice presidential candidate and a few other party stalwarts. Buhari's wife debunked rumours that Buhari is gravely sick and was undergoing medical treatment in London. Something is wrong here: Everything is shrouded in mystery and deceit, and there may be a cover-up everywhere. Chatham House first said that Buhari was not billed to speak over there, but, now, they are telling us that he will speak on Thursday, Feb. 25, there. We learnt that Buhari didn't meet Tony Blair, but, now, we are told that Tony Blair has confirmed that he met Buhari last Saturday, Feb. 21. Only time shall tell us what they are all up to. There might be an international conspiracy to cover thing up for Buhari and his Party. The international community, for reasons best known to them, is doing everything to see Buhari elected as Nigeria's President. But, those foreigners should know that only Nigerians can elect their president, and no matter what they think or want, it will have no bearing on the outcome of the election. APGA released a statement that the "Recent news that the APC Presidential Candidate - Rtd. Major General Muhammadu Buhari, met with Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, are nothing but a staged maneuver to hoodwink Nigerians into thinking something is happening between the APC and the Western World. We, at the ALL PROGRESSIVES GRAND ALLIANCE (APGA), will like to confirm that - Nothing is. Copy-cat meetings from 'wannabes' simulating contemporary relevance with ex Government officials from advanced countries as decoys, are an old PR move. They are nothing but a hollow effort to simulate substance from irrelevance. This ploy failed. Nigerians cannot fall for such antic. We, also wonder how much the APC paid for this move. The Photo ops from such meetings often give the inference in some circles, that something is in the offing. Nothing is. It is a well-known fact that specific fees are paid for such meetings, as these ex Heads of Government, out of power, policy making and relevance, are rather savvy to parlay their names and former offices for some personal profit, to any willing bidder and buyer who probably thinks being seen with them means something. These meetings do not mean that Government policy, if at all discussed, is in any way going to be changed on the requesting party's behalf. That is, if the ex-Heads of Government communicate their interaction to the ruling party in their country, at all. We at the ALL PROGRESSIVES GRAND ALLIANCE (APGA) ask, how much did the Rtd. Major General Buhari, and ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) front men pay for such meeting? Who paid what to whom, where and how much? Curious minds want to know". Ezeana pointed out that "Instead of campaigning in Nigeria for votes, Buhari is hobnobbing with white folks who don't vote in Nigeria? Did somebody remind this 73 year old high school dropout Boko Haram boss that Nigeria got her independence in 1960, a year before he dropped out of school? APC and Buhari and Boko Haram have taken their clown show on the road. Next stop? Dubai".

Buhari and his Party are hiding his ongoing health challenges from Nigerians, as there's a strong insinuation that Buhari checked into the hospital for treatment and was indisposed to meet his supporters. The shift in election dates have exposed the true nature of things, as APC was hoping to keep covering up Buhari's health condition until after the election, but, the postponement pull the rug from under the Party, by exposing what it was trying hard to hide. The APC's hierarchy is scrambling now to keep Buhari hanging on till after the election, even if it will mean keeping him on life support till then. APC is so desperate; it has been deceiving and lying to Nigerians about Buhari's health problem, that it went as far as doctoring photos to present an "adulterated" Buhari to the gullible public. It seems that Yar'Adua's scenario is being played out here also, as gistmania.com wrote that "The state of Buhari's health remains a source of concern to Nigerians as the country has experienced electing a gravely ill man into the office of president in 2007".

Due to the fear that another "Yar'Adua" is in the making in Buhari, some northerners are making some demands which will make them shift their support to President Jonathan. Because, to them, President Jonathan can be the choice between the devil and the deep blue sea, as "most northerners can't swim", so it's better to identify with the "devil" they know than the deep blue sea. We read that ahead of March 28 presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan has adopted a nine-point agenda that will drive his second term if he wins the poll. He adopted the agenda after a meeting with a team of top northern strategists. The strategy document among others, itemized key issues, including rebuilding the North, ridding the region of Boko Haram and appointment of the best materials from the North in his government, amongst other demands!

Buhari is not plain to Nigerians; he painted a picture depicting himself to be poor, humble, frugal, incorruptible, but, that's all false. His wife, Hajiya Aishatu Buhari, told the world, in London, that they have a house in London, and that her husband, Buhari is at home in UK to rest. How come that Mr. Anti-Corruption bought a house in London? While denying insinuations that her husband is in the United Kingdom to attend to a grave illness, Buhari's wife said "He's just come here to rest. He's just here to have a rest, at least a few days rest before he goes back to business. He's home, well and sound". Mrs. Buhari allayed the fears of Nigerians and APC supporters after emerging from a two-hour interactive drinks reception she and the wife of her husband's running-mate, Mrs. Osinbajo, held for Nigerians in the Diaspora on Saturday night, Feb. 20, at the Westminster Plaza Hotel, in Waterloo. Ihenadiogu wrote "He's just come here to rest. He's just here to have a rest, at least a few days rest before he goes back to business." ...Hajia Aishatu. Wow Wonders shall never stop!!! Like most Nigerians that have not made up their minds about whom to vote for in this election, I was captivated by the picture of Gen. Buhari portraying him as this low key man that has no Kobo in his pocket and lives a very humble and simple life. On a turnaround I was flabbergasted to learn that this uncorrupted General has a vacation home in England. Really vacation home? You do not see Tony Blair if you are not well connected or has big money stashed away. Well when it walks like a Duck and quacks like a duck it is definitely a duck. Nigerians how many times must you be fooled before you learn your lesson? Like Dr. Mike Okpara said that first fool nobi fool but second fool is proper foolish. Hmmm this London trip has opened up a cankerworm for me. And BTW Hajia Aishatu are you saying that there are no resort areas in Nigeria that your husband could have visited to chill out than to spend this kind of money to travel to England to chill? This is exactly the problem with Nigeria. Would Tony Blair take a time out from his campaign to come to Nigeria to chill or get medical attention? It is the problem with Nigeria that those who ruled before and now do not have confidence in their own country but would run to other countries for a retreat and medical attention".

Not only that Buhari has a house in London, he sends his children to expensive schools abroad while still claiming that he's a poor man. This was Buhari who deceived Nigerians with the words that "Nigerians have no other country; we will stay here and salvage it together". Paul Achalla wrote that "Contrary to the impression being created by General Buhari that he is a poor, humble, modest and incorruptible former Head of State, the lifestyle of his children, notably Zahra Buhari - a Medical Microbiology student of the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, speaks otherwise. Investigative reports show that Buhari may have spent about 150,000 in the past four years on just Zahra who is one of his several daughters, with her tuition alone gulping about 64,000 and 86,000 spent on accommodation, travels and other living expenses in the UK. This, when converted to Naira, amount to about N40 million. For a man who claims to have only 150 cows and N1 million in his bank account, this lavish and expensive lifestyle doesn't add up". Read more below!

That's the difference between President Jonathan and Buhari; and was summed up by Prof. Soyinka, when he endorsed Jonathan in December 2014 before recanting. These are Soyinka words: "Even though I have said it time and time again that the president should control his wife but there is something significant about Mr. President. He is the first president without any ties to the military mafia. All his children are in schools here in Nigeria. You cannot come across a skyscraper in any corner of Nigeria and people will tell you it belongs to him; even a seven storey building. I strongly believe that GEJ is a phenomenal change from before and if we cannot find a better, young alternative, then we must remain with him until we can groom someone better. This is no time to go back to the military mafia and go back to our vomit" The post Prof. Wole Soyinka Endorses Goodluck Jonathan For 2015 appeared first on Pointblanknews.

After playing hide and seek, Buhari will then speak at Chatham House, London on 26 Feb 2015 - 10:00 to 11:00. According to Elombah.com, the theme of his speech will be "Prospects for Democratic Consolidation in Africa: Nigeria's Transition", and would be chaired by Sir Richard Gozney, KCMG CVO KSTJ, British High Commissioner To Nigeria (2004-07). EVENT CONTACT is Chris Vandome (+44 (0)20 7314 3669). Buhari finds it worthwhile to speak to an international audience than to face the voters at home through the presidential debate, where he would have the opportunity to marshal his arguments, facts and plans for Nigeria, if he wins. Debate also affords many Nigerians the chance to get answers to their questions from the horse's mouth. But, Buhari is denying Nigerians that ample opportunity, no matter the flimsy excuses he gave for cowering.

But, why did he refuse to debate his opponents, so that Nigerians would know where he stands, as far as certain issues are concerned? That's contemptuous, and is not a good precedent from a man Nigerians want to give the benefit of doubt because of his ugly past. Pius Okaneme just wrote that "nothing displays a candidate's readiness than an open chance to defend his or her mandate before the public. This does not have much to do with speech ability. Word that is spoken is heart that is seen according to Igbo proverb. Citizens will hold the candidate accountable for his or her utterances. Any candidate that opts out of an election debate already has a staggering doubt looming over his head. Notwithstanding if he or she senses bias, he or she owes it to the electorates to go out there and prove his or her mettle. The adversity could be an opportunity to show that in spite of the odds, he or she is a champion".

For me, Buhari is pusillanimous, evasive, incoherent and angry. It seems he wants to be the president to get at some people he has something against. He seems to have no forgiving spirit! A group of young Nigerians known as Patriotic Vanguard have urged Nigerians to be wary of Buhari's desperation for power, which must have ulterior motives apart from the desire to serve and fight corruption, which Nigerians were made to understand. As I wrote in the preceding part of this article, Buhari has no respect for constituted authorities, and as such may not have the opportunity to lead Nigeria again. Buhari doesn't have the mindset or self respect to lead Nigeria in this information age as Nathaniel Branden (1930 -2014) wrote that "There is overwhelming evidence that the higher the level of self-esteem, the more likely one will be to treat others with respect, kindness, and generosity". For refusing to participate in the National Conference convoked by President Goodluck Jonathan to find solutions to the myriads of problems facing the nation, Chief Olu Falae said the All Peoples Congress (APC) does not want progress for the country. Falae said the APC, "by condemning and campaigning against the National Conference has shown that it was anything but progressive." Falae urged the people not to vote for "a party that refused to seize an opportunity to restructure Nigeria." Ken wrote "Nigerians know that he is neither humble or discipline as he tend to claim, he thumbed his nose at Oputa panel when he was called to come and explain things, it was an opportunity to defend and clear himself but the saying goes that, "Guilty Conscience Fears Accusation" thus the fake Mr. Discipline threw discipline out the window and thumbed his nose at Nigerians".

One thing is for sure: The postponement of the elections has revealed the real Buhari and APC, and that will cost them the election. You can bet on that! Femi Aribisala put it better by writing that "The APC blueprint is see-through. Present a new refurbished, suit-wearing and church-visiting Buhari to the electorate chanting a mantra of "change." Give him a Teflon-coated Redeemed pastor as vice-presidential running-mate. Shield him from public scrutiny and debates to hide his weaknesses and absent-mindedness. Gloss over his objectionable past and pedigree. Mount an aggressive image-laundering social media campaign. So doing, before the PDP and the public would be up to your game, the election would be over. Nigerians would wake up on February 15th to discover to our cost that we had been hoodwinked into handing over power to Buhari and the Tinubu cabal. The APC mechanism for perfecting this plan entailed bullying the PDP into defeat. In the North, PDP supporters were threatened and harassed. Some quickly packed their bag and baggage and left town. Even Goodluck Jonathan's convoy was stoned by APC "democrats." In Gombe, a suicide bomber paid a courtesy call on the president's campaign rally. But the killer-punch was to be the disenfranchisement of literally millions of PDP voters. With the complicity of Jega's INEC, APC strongholds were supplied with PVCs: while PDP strongholds were denied them. Ghost-voters came out of the woodwork by their hundreds of thousands in unlikely places like the war-torn North-east to collect their PVCs. However, in peaceful higher-population places like Lagos and Kano, non-indigenes were denied their PVCs, suspected of being likely PDP supporters. It is telling that, in all the ensuing brouhaha over 23 million people not yet receiving their PVCs seven days to D-Day, APC remained resolute that the election should go ahead nevertheless. This indicates that it knew the missing PVCs belonged disproportionately to PDP supporters. However, the entire strategy of the APC met its Waterloo with the postponement of the election. With the postponement, the Buhari election-train came to a screeching halt. Some have argued that the postponement was a military coup by Jonathan and the PDP. However, a more truthful assessment is that the postponement scuttled the APC plan to win the election by subterfuge. The APC was banking on the element of surprise. That is now gone with the postponement. It was hoping to win the election by disenfranchising PDP voters. That is no longer possible. It is now confronted with fighting an election it always knew it cannot win because it does not have the appropriate structure on the ground at the grassroots level. When the history of the 2015 presidential election is finally written, it will be recalled that the postponement of the election for six weeks was the final nail in the coffin of the APC".
