Jesus told His disciples, "Tarry ye in Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high." Not "Go immediately." Not "Start now." But tarry. Because power does not rest on those in a hurry-it rests on those who can wait.
The oil does not fall on the impatient. Moses was on the mountain for forty days. Elijah bowed between his knees until the seventh time. The disciples stayed in the upper room until the Spirit came. They tarried. They lingered. They refused to move without God. But we? We have learned how to start without tarrying. We have mastered motion without waiting. We want the fire without the altar. We want results without refining. We want manifestations without consecration. And we wonder why what we carry has no weight in the Spirit. A man who has tarried carries something different. His words are not empty. His presence alone is warfare. He has touched dimensions that books cannot teach, because there are things in God that only waiting can unveil. Tarrying is death to self. It is staying when flesh wants to run. It is groaning until the heavens tear open. It is weeping between the porch and the altar, refusing to be ordinary. It is knowing that in this Kingdom, men do not rise by ambition-they rise by waiting. Ask the old prophets, and they will tell you: men are not made in public, they are made in the secret place. Anointing does not rest on the gifted; it rests on the yielded. Glory does not fall on the crowd-chasers; it falls on the secret-seekers. You cannot be in a hurry and touch depths. The ones who carry weight are those who have learned the discipline of stillness. Many start, but few finish. Many talk, but few shift things. Many go, but few are sent. Because power does not come to those who are in a rush-it comes to those who are willing to wait. Will you tarry? Will you linger? Will you refuse to move without Him? The answer to your next level is not in more effort. It is in waiting. Tarry.
