CAN CHANGE EVER COME? (Poem)

advertisement

nder the of billowing cloud,
birds in their flight
sing sweet serenade
as they head homeward
to their nests,

while our citizens
in their homes
gnash their teeth
over unfair electric bills
that were never supplied,
and tap water that runs,
not on daily basis but fortnightly.

A painful rip-off
that provokes the public ire
and dwindles
the hopes and patriotisms
of our agonizing citizens
as we feel beguiled
by our leaders’
honeyed campaign eloquence.

Yet,
under the scorching heat
of the sun,
we queue,
to cast our votes
to our perceived ideal candidate,
who has what it takes
to douse our smoldering discontent,
and remove the pallor
hidden beneath our makeup,

and turn round,
the ruins
of our unfortunate past,
keep the lid over the prevailing violence,
checkmate political buccaneering
and navigate our nation
out of economic marshes and bogs,
and with no detours,
move forward,
our nation to an enviable level
that will add glow to our glooms.
