e all saw it coming. It was written in the stars( destined), that Victor Osimhen would break the transfer record of any Nigerian player ever! However, what was surprising is the fact he broke the transfer record of any African player ever!!!!! He is presently the most expensive African player ever!!!!!!!!
Napoli FC splashed or would splash about a whopping 80 million Euros for his services! This was a young man, from a very humble background, who grew up playing soccer in the streets of Lagos, as well as hawking wares to help his family's economy. He broke into limelight about five years ago, as an Under-17 player for Nigeria, winning the 2015 Under-17 World cup competition, in Chile, in the process. Since then his soccer career has been on the upward march. An initial unsuccessful transfer to Wolfsburg FC, occasioned by an unfortunate blight of injuries, was apparently the tonic needed by the young man to stand up and make a success of his career in Europe thus far. He was loaned to Charleroi FC, for further development, which turned out successful. Subsequently, Charleroi FC, activated the clause in his loan deal that gave them first option to buy him permanently. He was bought for 6 million Euros. Before Charleroi FC could enjoy his services as a regular player, FC Lille, came calling with a whopping 12 million Euros, to engage him on a four-year deal. His first and what turns out to be his only season with Lille, turned out to be a bonanza! He was instantly a big hit; and with 18 goals in all competitions, became one of the most sought-after players in Europe! Virtually every big club in Europe wanted his services. It was clear Lille FC couldn't hold onto him. It became a question of which big club he would go to and for what price. A Super Eagles' player, John Ogu, predicted Victor Osimhen would break the existing transfer record of any Nigerian player. But he went further, he broke the African record!!!!
Napoli FC, is a much bigger club side than Lille FC; that means the standards are higher, this would come with concomitant stiffer competition for starting places in the team's first eleven; and of course the expectations would be much higher. Also the Italian competition, is a much tougher competition(one of the toughest on earth) than the French or Belgian leagues, where Victor Osimhen did so well. But these facts notwithstanding, given Victor Osimhen's intrinsic qualities: sublime skills, speed, pace, strength, a towering physical advantage and above all an uncanny fighting spirit, one believes he would succeed in Napoli FC. And if he does, he would have profiled himself to be a World class striker! Me thinks the success of Victor Osimhen, would have a spill -over effect on the other budding Nigerian internationals, to take the step to the bigger or biggest soccer leagues of this world. If this happens, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, would have a decent collection of world class players, like the 1994 set of Super Eagles, at the 1994 World cup competition in the USA. If this expectation is realised in the next two years, Nigeria would present a Super Eagles team that would not only conquer Africa at the 2022 Nations' cup competition, but a team that would take the soccer world by storm at the 2022 World cup competition in Qatar! As a consequence, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, would most likely raise Africa's standards to never-seen-before heights at the 2022 World cup competition! This is doable! In conclusion, a very big congratulations to Victor Osimhen ! The young man must be cautioned to constantly keep his eyes on the 'ball', and not allow the distractions of the world to distract him! One believes he still has more to offer the game and can even break more records, in the future. He is only 21 years ! The watch words for him should be: discipline and hard work!!!!!! UP VICTOR OSIMHEN ! UP SUPER EAGLES! UP NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!
