t promises to be yet another titanic battle, between two teams who are apparently finding their Nations' cup rhythm. The Super Eagles did a fantastic job getting past the "Indomitable Lions" of Cameroun, in the last round; while the South-Africans turned the Nations' cup upside down with a highly unexpected victory over tournament hosts Egypt!
The South-Africans are gradually getting to the top of their game once again, and are gradually nearing the standards of the 1996 and 1998 teams that were African champions and Vice-champions respectively. They will certainly provide a good measure of competition to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Are the South-Africans, despite their rich/impressive run of form, beatable? Me thinks yes; very much so!
How can they be beaten?
The strategy should be the 4-3-3 employed in the last game. However the Super Eagles should employ the system correctly like one highlighted in the last article:" Super Eagles of Nigeria shoot-out the impressive "Indomitable Lions" of Cameroun, in a thrilling encounter!"
The Super Eagles' mid-field should be much more up and doing than in the game against the Camerounians. They tried their best but were out-performed by the Camerounian mid-fielders ; as a consequence, Cameroun had more ball possession than Nigeria. This is not atypical of a Nigeria- Cameroun encounter, considering the fact Cameroun normally uses more players in mid-field and also have more ball- juggling mid-fielders than Nigeria. This is one of the reasons your sincerely proposed the 3-5-2 formation against Cameroun, as a way of countering their known mid-field dominance.
The South- Africans with all due respects, are not in the same mould as the Camerounians, with regards ball-juggling ability in mid-field. This means the Super Eagles' mid-fielders can not only hold their own against the South-African mid-fielders, but can out-think them, out-smart them, out -play them and take effective control of the mid-field! If this is realised, the supplies to Tau, their main danger man and attacker, will be cut off! If this is realised, the South-African attack will be rendered in-effective. This will put more pressure on the South-African team, by the Super Eagles. With the Super Eagles' fast offensive displays from the wings, the South-African defence would cave in; and the goals would come!
For the Super Eagles of Nigeria, in the game against the South-Africans, the watch words should be : Concentration, tactical discipline, the usual determination to do well and a winner's mentality!!!!!!
In conclusion, Nigerians and all other Super Eagles' supporters are standing like one man behind the Super Eagles of Nigeria!
UP SUPER EAGLES ! UP NIGERIA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
