he friendly between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and their Congolese counterparts had two objectives for the Super Eagles:
Firstly, it was meant to say good bye to the teeming, loving and ever supporting members of the Nigerian community that always support the Super Eagles of Nigeria;
Secondly, it was meant to try some fringe players, with a view to selecting the best 23 players for Russia 2018.
Me thinks the above stated objectives were fairly well achieved. Though one must admit that the usually very demanding Super Eagles' supporters would have wished for an outright victory over Congo in that match, as a more befitting farewell present!
However, the DRC players somewhat 'spoilt' the party, with about thirteen minutes left to play. The purpose of this piece is not to give an in- depth analysis of the match, but to give some general impressions:
Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, was quite impressive. He gives one the confidence that he can be relied on between the posts at the World cup;
The defence line showed some frailties which Coach Rohr has already seen. Specifically, the fullbacks can do better!;
The mid-field was generally ok. And gives us hope that even in the absence of the mercurial Skipper Mikel Obi, the other mid-fielders can hold forth;
The offensive line was as usual strong, with the new boys: Junior Lokosa and Simeon "Simmy" Nwankwo, having proved their mettle. Coach Rohr certainly comes away with a good feeling here, since he talked about having found the correct profile for a centre-forward!
In conclusion, the main work for the World cup preparations has begun. One sincerely hopes and certainly trusts that Coach Rohr will select the best 23 players for the World cup, and then proceed to give them the last and best technical and tactical polish needed to give Nigerians and indeed all lovers of the Super Eagles, a solid team that will shock the world!!!!!! And cause a soccer "Tsunami"!!!!!!!!!
Me thinks this is realisable! Yours sincerely believes in these Super Eagles of Nigeria!
"Anyi bu nkwa!" "Iseeehhhhhh!"
UP SUPER EAGLES! UP NIGERIA!!!!!!!
