"The Super Eagles of Nigeria, have a bright future and can realise their immediate and long term ambitions, given the correct developmental environment." Cyril C. Nwokeji
t was indeed a gala display by the dominant and rampaging Super Eagles of Nigeria! They dominated their opponents throughout the encounter, giving them no quarters in the process.
The Super Eagles played in a 4-4-2 style, but this time around, slightly modified with regards their 4-4-2 formation against the Republic of Benin, in Porto Novo three days earlier.
Coach Rohr slightly modified the mid-field arrangement in the game against Lesotho. This time around, the central as of the mid-field was jointly under the control of : Wilfred Ndidi, alias "The Baggy-Bagger", and Etebo Oghenekaro, alias "Turbo Engine". They were jointly the co-ordinators/ controllers/ "Directors general " of the Super Eagles' mid-field! They did a superb job of it ! Alex Iwobi, alias "The dancing Krekel", operated as an offensive mid-fielder, with bias for the left side of mid-field; and also together with the left-back sensation: Zaidu Sanusi, and later on , Jamilu Collins, filled in for the absence of a conventional left-sided , wing offensive mid-fielder.
The other member of the mid-field quartet was, the right-sided, though left-footed, wing offensive mid-fielder: Samuel Chukwueze, alias "EL Fantastico".
Together, the Super Eagles' mid-field quartet put up a superb display and dominated their hapless opponents throughout the match. It was indeed an eye-catching Super Eagles mid-field display and dominance and for the fourth consecutive match for that matter, that is gradually transforming or rather transformed the Super Eagles of Nigeria, to a "footballing" team! In stark contrast to their style at the advent of Coach Rohr's tenure. At that time, the emphasis was on scoring goals and winning! They did this with "direct" and "counter" football ! It produced the needed results though, but there was little spectacle. In due course, Coach Rohr, is now transforming or rather has transformed the team to a "footballing" side, that not only "counter attacks" with "direct football", but that also builds up gradually from defence to attack , under impulse of a superb mid-field organisation! This is a very demanding way to play soccer, and requires skill, adaptability, flexibility and superb organisation from the players individually and collectively! It requires a team that plays truly as a team to succeed in implementing this very demanding soccer strategy!
The net effect is that we are gradually getting or rather have gotten a Super Eagles team that can play and win and with eye-catching soccer display for that matter, that cannot but leave soccer connoisseurs impressed, with their scintillating display!!!!! In other words, Coach Rohr and the technical crew are building or rather have built a fantastic soccer "ensemble" that will take Nigeria's soccer to hitherto never-seen - before heights !!!!!!!!!!! We wish them the best of luck!
The defensive organisation was rock -solid. And for the first time since Coach Rohr's inception, for the third consecutive match, they have prevented their opponents from scoring! It was indeed a well-marshalled defence under able leadership of stand-in Skipper William Troost-Ekong, alias "Rock of Gibralter", and ably assisted by "Commander-General" Leon Balogun, who was jointly at the heart of the defence and who put up a superb display.
The full-backs were super: Tyronne "The Dream" Ebuehi and Zaidi Sanusi, the left-back sensation!
The offensive duo: " The predaciously predacious" Kelechi Iheanacho, the supporting striker, who provided the vital pass for the first goal and Victor Oshimen, the deepest striker, who scored the first goal , together put up a superb display. And are together gradually becoming a superb striking pair/ couple, that may make Coach Rohr stick to the 4-4-2 formation for quite some time to come.
Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, like goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, in the match against Republic of Benin, also put up a commanding performance the few times he was called to action.
The substitute players of the Super Eagles : "The Supersonic jet-heeled" Skipper Ahmed "Mansa" Musa, Henry Onyekwuru, Jamilu Collins, Paul Onuachu and Anayo Iwuala, all did well and contributed to the Super Eagles victory.
Considering the superb display of the Super Eagles, it's little surprising they defeated their opponents, 3-0. With the other goals coming from: Etebo Oghenekaro and the irrepressible Paul Onuachu.
In conclusion, me thinks the puzzles are gradually falling or rather, have fallen in place for the Super Eagles of Nigeria : The goalkeeping problem has been solved ; the defence has become rock-solid, and hardly concedes goals; the mid-field is super, with superb displays in the last four matches; and the attack is as razor-sharp as ever, and with even prospects for better performance, considering the superb form of our attackers presently! These developments portend well for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, with regards the future challenges!
As Nigerians and supporters of the Super Eagles , we should continue to wish them well and support them in every possible way and not try to pull them down with disparaging criticisms! In the words of Governor Sanwo- Olu of Lagos state, the Super Eagles are our "national treasure", we should maintain it that way!
UP SUPER EAGLES! UP NIGERIA !!!!!!!!!
