"The Super Eagles of Nigeria, have a bright future and can realise their immediate and long term ambitions, given the correct developmental environment." Cyril C. Nwokeji

t was indeed victory gotten at quasi the very last second of action! The match appeared destined for a scoreless finish, but the soccer gods 'ruled' in Nigeria's favour at the last second. The 'decision' of the soccer gods in my humble opinion was fair and square. The Super Eagles deserved victory in the rather pulsating encounter. They had earlier on missed three goal-bound shots, due to some unlucky circumstances : the powerful left-footed pile driver by kelechi Iheanacho and the pin-point header by Henry Onyekuru, off a brilliant pull out by left-back sensation, Zaidi Sanusi, in the first half. And also a powerful right-footed shot by Victor Osimhen, in the second half. And of course the myriad of half chances missed by the dominant Super Eagles of Nigeria!

Yes the Super Eagles were dominant in the encounter. They controlled the mid-field and by implication the game from start to finish; under impuls of mid-field 'generalissimo'/ co-ordinator, the left-footed and highly dynamic, Joseph Ayodele Aribo! Joe Aribo did his job with dexterity, and together with Wilfred Ndidi, alias the "baggy-baager", in defensive mid-field, and ably assisted in a more offensive mid-field position by the pair of : Samuel Chukwueze alias "El Fantastico", and Henry Onyekuru, in respectively, right- and left-sided wing offensive mid-field positions, completed the fantastic mid-field quartet that kept the Squirrels of Benin under wraps , even on home soil for all of ninety-five minutes the game lasted.

Talking of the Super Eagles' formation, Coach Rohr chose for an offensive-oriented 4-4-2 formation. That had four defenders: The usually brilliant Ola Aina, at right-back, who apparently, tactically, was not given the licence to overlap as he normally does, but still had a brilliant game. The new left-back sensation: Zaidi Sanusi, who through his impressive performances has further made the left-back position of the Super Eagles competitive. Stand-in Skipper William Troost-Ekong, alias "Rock of Gibralter", was brilliant at centre-half back and "Commander-General " Leon Balogun, was at his brilliant best at left-half back. Any talk about the "Commander-General " losing form, in my considered opinion, is rubbish talk!

The mid-field quartet was as earlier highlighted.

The offensive duo were: The highly 'predacious' Kelechi Iheanacho and Victor Osimhen. Both of them played well and were unlucky not to have gotten on the score sheet.

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, though not very much tested, gave a commanding performance the few times he was called to action. He is gradually becoming the Super Eagles' number 1 goalkeeper!

The Super Eagles players all gave a good account of themselves, including the substitutes who helped tilt the game in Nigeria's favour : Paul Onuachu, Anayo Iwuala and Chidozie Awaziem. Paul Onuachu, who replaced Kelechi Iheanacho, in the 70th minute, headed in the back-breaker of a winner, in the 93rd miniute!

In conclusion, a big congratulations to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for not only winning the game against the squirrels of Benin on their home soil in Porto Novo, but also winning the group and qualifying for the 2022 edition of the African Nations' cup competition. It must be noted they qualified for the Nations' cup competition with two matches to spare!!!!!!!! This is a new qualification record for Coach Gernot Rohr! And of course a big congratulations to Coach Rohr and the coaching crew. Also a big congratulations to the Federal and state governments, the NFF and Nigerians for the continued support for the Super Eagles of Nigeria: our national treasure - in the words of Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos.
