EKITI 2018: THE GOD OF SECOND CHANCE AND THE RETURN OF KAYODE FAYEMI AS GOVERNOR, EKITI STATE

he True Lord God Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and the earth; the Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient Whom I serve in truth and deed is a Loving, Good and Compassionate Father. His Love for us is unquantifiable and immeasurable. He doesn't treat us as our sins deserve, even our First Parents; Adam and Eve didn't get the full dosage of their disobedience, otherwise we shall all be consigned to that horrible and pitiful place that Satan and his demons will wail, agonize and eternally lament. This slack that the Lord God Almighty continuously cut us against the backdrop of our monotonous infidelity to Him is why precisely Satan and his first offending demons and fallen spirit are perpetually waging war against the human race. Why, God if You are fair and righteous have you not extended us a second chance like you do to human beings? As first offenders and original sinners; spiritual amnesty and God's second chance are foreclosed to Satan and his demons, because unlike these rebellious hordes who knew the rules of the game, God the Good, Fair and Righteous Judge. As the Psalmist says:

"He will not always accuse us, nor harbor His anger forever. He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His loving devotion for those who fear Him.…" (Psalm 103:9-11). And why does the Lord gives us future opportunities that will spare us the Nether Gloom as just desert for sinners and the disobedient? Because; "… he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust" (Psalm 103:14), albeit He created us in His Image and Likeness.

Throughout the Word of Life we saw how the Sovereign Lord God Almighty gave nations, a people and individuals countless chances and opportunities to get it together, and they failed. For 430 years, the Canaanites were given opportunities to live straight and desist from worshiping demon-gods, but refused and ultimately, God's judgment had to be visited on them. The men and women on earth in Noah's Age had 120 years to listen and heed the warning of an impending judgment from Noah, but laughed him to scorn. Our Lord Jesus Christ drew analogy between that obstinate horde of that era and our generation; "…But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:37). Did the Twins Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah simply go into smithereens from God's heavenly fire and brimstone? No, they were warned but they were incorrigible and so had to go like Satan and his demons. It was not Lord God Almighty Who planned that the children of Israel would spend 40 years instead of 40 days in the wilderness, but they flunked numerous chances and had to pay for heir disobedience and faithlessness. King Saul and David committed almost identical sins; in fact, the latter was more egregious, but Saul ended up on the negative Other Side and David got a slack. Why? Repentance and our attitudes after we are caught with her hands in the cookie jar. Judas Iscariot and Peter; two confidantes of the King of kings and two of the 12 Apostles of the Lord of lords; the feet of the two slipped just like any of us, but Peter was restored but Judas Iscariot went to where he eternally belonged. What was the difference? The same second chance was extended to both; Peter wept and repented; Judas Iscariot felt remorseful but committed suicide. He didn't have to; if he could repent and wait for the Lord's second and third chance by asking for forgiveness; his eternal journey may have been different. In the affairs of the human race, the True Lord God Almighty is still in the business of extending us second chances so, we can get it together and be what He has destined us to become.

No leader had been so lucky in the history of Africa than Milton Apollo Obote, the first democratically-elected president of Uganda upon independence in 1962, who led and ruled that East Africa nation till 1971 when he was overthrown by his army chief; Idi Amin. In 1979, Obote had the rare second chance of presiding over his nation once again as president between 1980 and 1985, but turned into a political ogre until he ran the nation into a bitter civil war until he died in exile in South Africa in 2005 unmissed, unwept and un-mourned by his country men and women. Compare Obote with John Rawlings of Ghana and see the power of second chances that the Almighty God extends to each of us in either private or public life? Rawlings first came in 1979 to clean the Augean stable in Ghana and did a good job. He handed over power, only to ask the Lord God Almighty to give him a second chance which he got. In 1981, he returned and thoroughly detoxified Ghana and stayed put for nearly quarter century to lay the foundation of a New Ghana. Here in Nigeria, no one has been so lucky that Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo who has the rare privilege of governing a nation as complex as Nigeria twice and the verdict of history awaits him anon. In Ekiti state, no one has been so lucky that Peter Ayodele Fayose. After he was kicked out of office in 2006, his star dimmed, but the Lord God Almighty extended His Mercy and Love to him and he came back to the same office in 2014. In a state with the largest number of academics, professors, intellectual minds and thinkers, Fayose a former laboratory technician and installer in Ibadan came back to govern Ekiti state once again. Power indeed, belongs to the True Lord God Almighty! The Sovereign Lord of the heavens and the earth Who is the repository of al sovereignties does this; "...so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people" (Daniel 4:17). In accordance with His Character, the Lord God Almighty gives us numerous chances; just as He did to the men and women of old, He does same today because He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 11:13); however, what we do with our second and further chances in the Presence of God's Court of Eternal Justice is up to us. King Saul ruled Israel for 40 years, the same 40 years God gave to King David and the same 40 years Solomon sat on the throne as the wisest man that ever lived. Like King Saul, whose kingdom was cut off, those who fail to learn from history, as the Spanish-American essayist/writer, George Santayana aptly observed, are fated to repeat it. Providence catapulted Ayodele Fayose back to a redeeming vintage after his disgraceful exit via impeachment first time around, but unable to read and learn from history, a mélange of petulance, blether and thuggish behavior robbed him of positive mention in Ekiti history.

It is normal to disagree in politics; especially on the contentious issues of who gets what, when and how in the allocation of resources, but should that degenerate into abuses, insults and name calling as that boy; Ayodele Fayose is doing? Should a so-called sitting governor be abusing the president of Nigeria the way Fayose is doing and Ekiti people, who are known to be sophisticated, cultured and highly-educated tolerate such uncouth and thuggish behavior? Even in Yorubaland, we do not condone such behavior, more so a land known as the Land of Honor and Integrity. I learned that Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose, the first lady and spouse of Peter Fayose is a Christian; shouldn't she draw the attention of her husband to that Biblical Commandment; that we should respect old age and "rise in the presence of the aged and honor the elderly face-to-face. "Fear your God. I am the LORD" (Leviticus 19:34). Is the conduct of her husband in public office the history she wants to make in accordance with her Yoruba name of Feyisetan-the recorder and chronicler of history? If Peter Ayodele Fayose is spiritually ignorant, I am told his flunky; Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola- Eleka is a professor and a pastor, shouldn't he draw the attention of his principal to that Biblical injunction in 1 Timothy 5:1" Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father." Should Eleka not tell Fayose that in Yoruba land, in African culture, among Black people of the world and in the colony of the decent, finest and well-brought up folks, you do not abuse a 75-year old man the same age as your father as Fayose is doing to President Muhammadu Buhari. I don't care the title you parade, you're a total mess and completely screwed up, if you behave like this. Does Fayose have children? Do they watch their father on television? Is Fayose the only governor of the PDP in opposition that is behaving like a lunatic? Has morality and decency terribly taken flight in the Land of Honor that a base person like that tout should be gallivanting in the corridors of power to our collective obloquy? Can't Peter Ayodele Fayose emulate decent, matured and sensible PDP governors like Gov Udom Gabriel Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state, Prof. Ben Ayade of Cross River state, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state in their utterances, comportment and carriage? As Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe told Chuba Okadigbo in 1983, youth is not immortal and any young man who denigrates and besmirches old people will never attain old age!

I know many Ekiti people may see Dr John Kayode Fayemi as intellectually-uppish; that is on the exterior; but candidly, most of us Akokites-those of us who passed through the University of Lagos are- more so when you are a PhD holder, including yours sincerely. But Ekiti people, noted for political sophistication, awareness and education should ask themselves, why is John Kayode Fayemi returning as the governor of Ekiti state? He didn't need to do this, against the backdrop of his recent position as minister of Mines and Steel Development of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Check it out; of the N1.2 Trillion budgeted by the Buhari Administration in 2017, half of the staggering amount ended up at Fayemi's ministry. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that the mining and steel sectors had been growing negatively since 2014 until the second quarter of 2017 with Fayemi at the helms. Much of the financial allocation to the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing ended at the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, because you can't have stable, steady and uninterrupted electricity, construct roads, bridges and modern highways and invest in durable public housing without mines and steel. The moribund Ajaokuta Steel Plant that had been comatose for years and abandoned under 16 years of PDP administration in post-military Nigeria has revved up to life. I watched the special report on the once-abandoned edifice on the Doha-based Al-Jazeera and was impressed. All these modest achievements under Kayode Fayemi and with the allocations to his ministry and the total budget of Ekiti state annually compared, Fayemi didn't even need to venture returning to Ekiti state as governor. If for prestige and personal aggrandizement, it was a demotion; if it was for pecuniary gain, going back to Ekiti state was not a wash. So what is driving John Kayode Fayemi back to the Land of Honor and Integrity?

The elderly man in Ekiti east local government needs Fayemi to re-introduce his social security scheme; the elderly woman in Efon will be assured of her monthly N5,000 social security payment in the next four years; the physically-challenged in Ikole will not be abandoned; the young orphan in Oye-Ekiti will be guaranteed good education; the fatherless in Irepodu/Ifelodun will feel the impact of governance as they did in the first term of John; and no one will deny the poor man and woman in Ilejemeje a decent meal and disrespect during the second coming of Kayode and the homeless person will have a place to sleep in Ijero under Fayemi's public housing scheme. Forget about the blustering of Peter Ayodele Fayose about herdsmen, because Nigerians of all hues have resolved to live together as a nation in peace and harmony thus, the foreigner or stranger who is an Ibo person in Ido-Osi will be guaranteed adequate protection and certainly the Hausa men and women in Emure-Ile and their Ebira counterparts in Ekiti south west doing legitimate businesses will not be harassed and intimidated in the Land of Knowledge in Fayemi Administration. In the Second Coming of JKF, the prisoner in Gbonyin will have their cases re-examined, the homeless man or woman in Ekiti west will be assured of shelter and never again with the handicapped person in Ikere belittled by the government. If John Kayode Fayemi is after money, Abuja is where it is and he should have stayed there; but he's coming back home to lift up the orphan and fatherless in Ise-Orun; the alien in Moba and the impoverished in Ado-Ekiti.

The Okada man may consider it populist picking a governor for a ride, but teachers and civil servants being owed backlog of salaries cannot even ride on Okada. The roadside hawker and food vendor may be entertained by a sitting jester-governor eating in public view, that cheap public stunt won't give their children and wards well, quality and millennium education. You can't give what you do not have; this is a fact. A College drop-out and a philistine mind sowing angst, hatred, bitterness, chaos and divisiveness cannot foist a pliant and manipulative successor on the good people of Ekiti state. The teachers that are being owed salaries, the civil servants whose personal dignity has been taken away, the traditional rulers have been disrespected should all resolve to punish Peter Ayodele Fayose on Saturday July 14, 2018 and make his lickspittle toady pay dearly for arrogance, meanness and cruelty with the greatest electoral shellacking Ekiti people are noted for as the Land of Honor and Integrity.

It is time for the healing to begin; the last four disastrous years of Era of Ignorance should be seen as a blip. Ekiti state should open a new chapter and live up to its state true moniker as not only the Fountain of Knowledge, but truly and indeed; the Land of Honor and Integrity.

IMO 2019: The Holy Spirit is moving and He has shown us what will happen in Imo state next year. Plenty of surprises are waiting for Imolites and the pundits. Traditions and culture will be shaken to their very foundations here and many are in for rude awakening in 2019. Watch out!

Every good product goes through some necessary legally-prescribed quality control and assessment procedures which guarantee the product will serve the intended purpose of the purchaser. This is called warranty clauses. In spiritual matters, warranties cannot be provided, because the purposes prayers, supplications and intercessions are offered can only be made possible by the Lord God Almighty. In this book, the Holy Spirit instructed us to give warranty clauses based on what you the reader must do rather than what is published in this book. The warranty we give is from the Word of God as revealed in the Holy Bible. We know the Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of God. "Since God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of man that he should repent…" (Numbers 23; 19) because "God cannot lie," (Titus 1: 2) and "in which it is impossible for God to lie" (Hebrews 6:18c). Consequently, the onus rests on you the reader to do certain things as revealed in this book so that God's Warranty can be effective in your life. In other words, if you obey the commandments of God and do as He directs, His Words alone are His warranties.
