No matter the hagiographers of the epochal June 12, 1993 presidential election struggle would love to write and re-write history and its de-narrative, it would be incomplete and full of lacunae without the names of the authentic heroes and heroines of that titanic struggle. Indeed, the so-called democracy and its dividends that Nigerians are enjoying today would be incomplete without paying tribute to people like Moshood Fayemiwo, Bunmi Aborisade, Dele Ajaja, Dele Momodu, Alex Kabba, Ike Okonta, late Ms. Alice Ukoko-Ugono and as my elder brother, Wole Olaoye pointed out; "… In my piece last year, I also remembered some of those whose paths crossed mine as we navigated the treacherous minefield of Nigerian journalism and social activism at the time: If I may remember some of those whose paths crossed mine in those days of goggled evil: Nze Mark Odu, BK Ogala, Moshood Fayemiwo, Jimmy Imo, Joe Igbokwe, Eddy Okparaoji, among others…" (See Premium Times June 15, 2025).
PRESS RELEASE: Owo Is One Association Calls for Revisit and Review of June 12 Heroes Honors List The Owo Is One Association, a non-governmental organization dedicated to the socio-political and economic development of Owo-speaking communities, has expressed disappointment over the omission of key figures from the recent list of democrats and activists honored for their contributions to Nigeria's democratic struggle. Speaking on behalf of the group, Chief Akinboro Aruwajoye, National Coordinator, stated: "We are disappointed that Owo, the epicenter of the struggle against military dictatorship, was not mentioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nor by Ondo State Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa in their speeches commemorating June 12 in Abuja and Akure."
Chief Aruwajoye further highlighted the significant role Owo played during the military era, noting that General Sanni Abacha had blacklisted the town and ordered the harassment of Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin, the leader of NADECO and Afenifere. Pa Ajasin was subsequently detained in Owo Division A Police Station along with dozens of activists. Despite these sacrifices, Ajasin's name was omitted from the list of honorees, along with those of his notable associates.
The association's Head of Strategy and Media, Mr. Olatunbosun Oladimeji expressed disappointment that other distinguished individuals, such as Mr. Bala Dan Abu, Dr. Omotsule and Dr. Moshood Fayemiwo, who suffered greatly during the military era, were also left out of the honor list. "We are particularly displeased that the name of our hero, the late Pa Adekunle Ajasin, was not among those honored by President Tinubu," the statement read. "Afenifere provided crucial leadership for the June 12 struggle, and these heroes of democracy deserve recognition, regardless of whether awards are given. Many were forced into exile, imprisoned, or martyred, while others remained alive to share their stories." The story of June 12 Struggle is incomplete without the doyen of NADECO and the recognition Chief Adekunle Ajasin honorably deserves: Bola Tinubu and his gang must have been on crack or something to omit the name of the Tiger of Owo and Second Leader of the Yoruba Land and the founder of NADECO in their so-called Honor List.

Many accolades, awards, and recognitions have come our way from Florida, New York, Illinois to Texas and around the world; Canada, UK, Turkey, The Netherlands etc for the pains, sufferings and disabilities we endured between 1993 and 1999 during the struggle for the de-militarization of Nigeria and the enthronement of democracy. Tinubu and his handlers may not recognize our contribution but we have been recognized by the world international community. Consequently, adding CON, OON or whatever titles which are meaningless outside Nigeria to our cornucopia of achievements count for nothing. Not only we have been recognized here in the United States, but they know our worth and asset and thus extended their citizenship to us and it is a great honor to become the citizen of the greatest nation on the earth; the United States of America.
But in all these, we are most grateful that our greatest achievement is being rescued by our Lord, Master and Savior Jesus Christ Who manifested Himself to me on Friday February 21, 1997 at the DMI where Sani Abacha ordered I should be kept. It was inside this Gulag that my life changed forever and Jesus Christ conferred His Eternal Citizenship on me thus: "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ …" (Philippians 3:20). This is the ultimate honor. Hallelujah! Is your name in Jesus Christ Honor's List?

Now that you have accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ which He truly is, you need to saturate yourself with the Word of God so you can grow in your new faith. You need to change and renew your mind with the Words of God which are contained in the Greatest Book on earth given to humanity as a compass to navigate our paths in this Satanically-controlled and demon-infested earth following the fall of our First Parents in the Garden of Eden. That Book is the Holy Bible. The three basic reason for this is that the secular education has been totally corrupted by Satan hence, the Holy Spirit commanded us in Romans 12: 2:" Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will." You can't discover His Will for your life now that you are one of His Own until you read His Word. Second, there is a spiritual war afoot and in the not-too-distant Time Street over your life now that you are a child of the King. Satan and his demons, including their human agents will fight to bring you back to their cursed and darkened kingdom. You need to know how to fight through the deployment of the Word of God, because from now onward, "… our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:12-17). Thirdly, you need the Word of God for good success according to Joshua 1:8: "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."
