"I have solution to Nigeria's problems"
- Gov. Udom Emmanuel

Reports by: - Malam Bashir Muhammad, Rahman Oladele, and Kazeem Lagundoye

ov. of Akwa Ibom state, and presidential aspirant under the platform of the PDP, Emmanuel Udom, has said he has solutions to Nigeria's myriad of problems.

Speaking yesterday while he met with the PDP National Working Committee in Abuja to intimate them with his presidential ambition, Udom said he was running to solve problems that had proved intractable to the present administration.

Udom likened Nigeria to a country at war on many levels, adding "we cannot leave our generals and best hands behind while we fight the war" "I am a bridge builder, I have the capacity, I understand the issues, I know the problems and I have the solutions. Anywhere in the world, the economy is preeminent. As a trained, tried, and tested economist, I know what to do. Besides, I will not only tell you what to do but will also tell you how to do it. I performed in the corporate world, and I have also performed in government", he said.

Udom reminded the PDP chieftains that he has stood with the party through thick and thin and has not for once jumped ship. " With all modesty and due sense of responsibility, I have done so much for the party, and it is not too much for the party to stand by me now. One good turn deserves another. I am poised to lead the party to victory in the next election. I have the solutions to our problems. I have the creativity, the ideas, and the capacity. I have demonstrated that in Akwa Ibom state with Ibom Air where Nigeria as a country does not even have a national airline. I have also demonstrated that by moving Akwa Ibom to the second position on Foreign Direct Investment coming into Nigeria. Today Akwa Ibom manufactures one of the best syringes in the world and these are in hot demand even by foreign countries. Our Kings Flour Mill is also world class"

The presidential aspirant then said he was running to bring hope to despondent Nigerians and restore the country's lost glory. "We aspire to inspire our people - the youth, women, the middle class, the corporate world and every other stratum of our society. Hope belongs to those who can see the future. I can. Here I am, send me."

The presidential aspirant was well received at the Wadata House headquarters of the PDP where the NWC was led by the PDP national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu supported by other members of the PDP NWC. Ayu said he was impressed by Udom's presentation, his pedigree as well as track record of performance and achievements as governor.

He promised level playing ground for all aspirants and enjoined them to let their campaign be issue based. "We don't want aspirants running around stadiums. What the people are interested in are the problems bedeviling the economy and insecurity and how to solve them".

Ayu expressed delight with Udom's understanding of these issues and his proposed solutions to them. He described APC as a "fragmented alliance; very soon they will disappear." National Secretary of the PDP NWC, Senator Sam. N. Anyanwu, described Udom as "one of the people Nigerians are waiting for. APC has collapsed. Nigeria is waiting for PDP".

"Anywhere in the world, the economy is preeminent. As a trained, tried, and tested economist, I know what to do. Besides, I will not only tell you what to do but will also tell you how to do it. Akinjide Osuntokun: "My ordeal in Abacha's prison"

Ambassador Akinjide Idowu Oshuntokun (above) and Dr Moshood Ademola Fayemiwo (below) were both detained at the DMI in 1998/1999 during the Abacha dictatorship

The democracy Nigerians are enjoying today came at a heavy and tolling price on some of us who put our lives on the line during the Years of Military Dictatorship. Dr Moshood Ademola Fayemiwo was one of such Nigerians who was incarcerated and almost died in Abacha's Gulag to rescue Nigeria from the throes of autocracy. Prof. Akinjide Oshuntokun, former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Germany, member, Canadian Society of African Affairs, recipient of Presidential Honor of Equatorial Guinea, recipient, Order of the Niger OON among others and now Professor at Redeemer's University, Ede Osun State was one of handful detained at the dreaded Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI) Apapa, Lagos Nigeria. He will clock the Divine Graceful Age of 80 years on Tuesday April 26, 2022. In an interview with the Lagos-based The Nation Newspaper, he rhapsodies on his forthcoming birthday, but also reminiscences on our days inside Abacha's Gulag. Here are excerpts from the interview:

"…Having said all these, there was a young man, Moshood Fayemiwo. He was the president of the Students' Union, University of Lagos. He was some kind of journalist when he came out. His cell was underground the room where we were detained. He was in a special cell underground and he was not allowed to see the sun. Usually in the evening, we would all congregate on top of his cell to sing. While singing, he would try to call my name maybe to chat with me, and I was always afraid. This young man, leave me alone, don't call my name. He was under the ground. His case was terrible. How would you lock up a man under the ground? He could not see the sun…"

There is no other life to live apart from the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is our Creator, believe me. He is not a prophet, He is the Lord God Almighty Himself, because He said so in John 10:30; "I and the Father are one." Again, He said in John 14:9 thus: "

Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? There is plethora of Bible references for you to know that my Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ is the Sovereign Lord God Almighty Himself. So, if you think you believe in God, you must give your life to our Lord Jesus Christ, because as He again declared to us in John 14:06: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

You can give your life to Jesus Christ now! Say this prayer now using Romans 10:9-10: "Jesus Christ, I come to You now with penitent heart and contrite spirit. I confess I am a sinner. I have been living my life the way I want, which is a rebellion against You. I know that nothing good resides in me. That is why I come to You today to forgive me of my sins and rebellion. I believe in my heart that You came to this world over 2,000 years ago. You were born by the Virgin Mary in the city of Bethlehem of Judea. You lived with us for 33 years and was sinless. Then, You went onto the Cross and died for my sins and sins of the world. Then You rose up again three days later after defeating Satan and the hordes of darkness in the nether gloom and today, you are holding the keys of death and hades in Your Hands. Jesus Christ, I confess You with my mouth as my Lord, Master, and Savior. Your Death on the Cross had paid the penalty for my sins and Your resurrection was for my justification. From today onward, I will obey, worship, and praise You. I will not live for my self-centered and egoistical life anymore. I will do what You want me to do. I will serve You for the remainder years of my life. I will tell others about You and witness to others about Your love and works of redemption and finished work on Calvary. Take me as Your Own. Seal me with the Holy Spirt. Enable me to do what You have created me for on this earth. Use me for Your Glory Jesus Christ and let me live my full life span. Let me fulfill my destiny and after I have accomplished the purpose for which You created me and sent me to this earthly temporary realm, I will return to You as the Shepherd of my spirit and soul reign with You in Your Kingdom for eternity in Your Holy Name, Amen."

It is done now. You are saved and are now a child of the Living God. He is your father from now onward. Pray that this Jesus Christ will direct you to a Holy Spirit-filled and Word-based Church in your neighborhood where you can join other believers to grow in your new faith from now on. Please be careful you do not keep company with your former friends and crowds so they will not draw you back to your former ways of life. Remember the Holy Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come The old has gone, the new is here!" Remember you confessed your sins to the Lord Jesus Christ, and He forgave you, because He cannot lie. Make sure you do not renege on our vows never to commit those sins again. Find a Bible believing Church and tell the pastor or shepherd there that you have just given your life to our Lord, Master and Savior Jesus Christ and you want him to walk you through walking the Christian Walk. Hallelujah! Tell him I sent you and if moved by the Holy Spirit to contact me, shoot me an email: [email protected]. Congratulations and welcome to the family of the Living God!

The heart-wrenching stories and pictures that dot the global mediascape coming out of the South-Asian nation of Afghanistan are assaults on our collective consciousness as human beings. The precipitous withdrawal of the United States after two decades of occupation are eyesores to the rest of the world that, when the chips are down, no foreign power, outsiders and organizations or otherness will come to develop your nation. Between September 11, 2001, when President George W. Bush invaded that nation and last week when President Joseph R. Biden withdrew our troops, the United States spent $2 trillion on the war against the Taliban. That staggering amount translates to $300million per day. If you divide that amount by head for the poor people of Afghanistan, that translates to $50,000. In the war, 2,300 US soldiers perished, 75,000 Afghan soldiers were massacred while 71,334 civilians died with many unaccounted for. As a matter of fact, the true costs of the war may never be known.

Many people became millionaires, toads of war who cashed in bigly like the runaway Ashraf Ghani who helped himself to unknown amount of the Green Backs. The military industrial complex also helped themselves handsomely while the poor, the women, young girls, the marginalized and the vulnerable are on their own. That is war! For those who are beating the drumbeats of war elsewhere, they should look no further of what awaits them. War is terrible. It is not a dinner party. Why can't people of the world understand and get it? Satan and his demons love and crave blood of human beings and are behind all the major wars in human history.
