In Nigeria, might is right. This Hobbesian ambience and world of the powerful lording it over the helpless permeates all areas of life. In politics, the muckety murks surround themselves with thugs and gangsters who are fed and paid by their principals to inflict maximum pains on their opponents and disappear with ballot boxes only to reappear later with stuffed votes to undermine the will of the people. Do votes actually count? Do those calling the shots really represent the genuine will of the Nigerian voters? In virtually all the presidential, senatorial, governorship and other electioneering exercises in Nigeria, one can conveniently assert that most of the elections are routinely fixed to give such electoral contests veneer of legitimacy in Nigeria's version of representative democracy. Perhaps, the election of retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 which incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan conceded was an "anomaly" in this clime.
In social life, the law is an ass. Someone once swore that whatever you want in Nigeria can be obtained if you have the money, including the heart of a human being which is common these days for making money a la ritual killing. Because the rot in Nigeria starts from the top down to the bottom, the more brutal and hard you are in this survival of the fittest world, the easier for you to have your way. A story was told few years ago of a Nigerian-American who relocated back to his "home" in Lagos. He was full of ideas and good intentions to make things work and so spotted a young man who was terrorizing the neighborhood. Pronto, our "Andrew" Nigerian went to work and found out the vagrant was a high-class armed robber and he quickly went to the police station to lodge a complaint imploring the law enforcement agents to put the young man away so there would be peace in the community. Few days later, the armed robber came in daytime to our American returnee and warned him to steer clear of his business and if he wanted to live peacefully in the neighborhood he shouldn't have the effrontery to report him to the police. It happened that the very people employed to put armed robbers away had called the young troublesome man and asked: "What did you do to that American man who came to report your nefarious activities to us?" The Nigerian-American returnee made sure he returned fully back to Virginia in the United States that month and vowed never, ever to set foot on the land of his birth again for ever.
In 2013 after my wife and I wrote the biography of Mr. Aliko Muhammad Dangote; the so-called richest man in Nigeria nay Africa and the world, the billionaire wanted to dictate the contents of the seminal work at all costs. He got the Nigerian Police to begin to hunt for our representative in Nigeria, but because our publishers and we are based in the United States, he contacted his network here in the United States to stop the publication of the book. The law enforcement agents here in the United States told him matter-of-factly and his publicists that we don't censor publications here in the US and they should wait to see the biography in print and if they saw any defamatory statements in the work, they should sue us. That biography was published and is fifteen years in print today and selling around the world as a best seller.
The culture of setting aside the law and those entrusted with ensuring the fundamental rights of all citizens are not compromised hasn't changed much. The former First Lady of Nigeria during the administration of Mr. Goodluck Jonathan is deploying this power of might is right currently in Nigeria. She has instructed the Nigerian Police to detain indefinitely all her domestic workers suspected of tampering with her jewelries. The former First Lady, as the wife of an ex-president has the power to put anyone out of circulation in her orbit without a whimper from the police, even those who were not directly or remotely involved in the theft of her bling-bling.

Ms. Deborah Eremah has been in the employ of Patience Jonathan since her days as First Lady. Eremah was trusted with millions of Naira cash during those years and never once had the first lady accused her of stealing. In Nigeria, the mighty pay pittance to their workers and are a law unto them because they have the power. Those who work for them do so because they have to survive so after serving the First Family without blemish, Deborah was retained when Patience Jonathan and her husband retired to Bayelsa State as former occupants of Aso Rock, the seat of Nigeria's Presidency. It was during this period that Mrs. Patience Jonathan discovered that some of her assorted jewelries probably bought with stolen funds during her husband's presidency were missing and pronto, all her domestic servants, about 14 of them, including Deborah who was not even in town during the theft were herded into prison. Since 2019, these poor and defenseless domestic servants were locked up at the instructions of the powerful former First Lady. Deborah lost her daughter during these unfortunate years and her ailing mother, 78-year old Ibiamina Igbiri is wallowing in poverty and squalor. The 15 domestic servants have not been charged to court and the theft allegation is still being "investigated" by the Nigerian Police Force. What are the costs of these stolen jewelries and what evidence have been discovered to link these 15 unfortunate men and women to the stolen jewelries?

Let us assume for argument sake that the 15 men and women were guilty of the theft as alleged by Mr. Patience Jonathan, how many years imprisonment would the theft crime have attracted in the court of law? Should they be locked up indefinitely in detention without trial? What evidence has the Nigerian Police discover and have in their possession to justify the continued incarceration of these domestic staff of Mrs. Patience Jonathan? Just the words of the First Lady against these unfortunate and poor Nigerians! This is Nigeria where law and order has no meaning and the police are answerable only to the mighty, the powerful and highly connected.

Now that you have accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ which He truly is, you need to saturate yourself with the Word of God so you can grow in your new faith. You need to change and renew your mind with the Words of God which are contained in the Greatest Book on earth given to humanity as a compass to navigate our paths in this Satanically-controlled and demon-infested earth following the fall of our First Parents in the Garden of Eden. That Book is the Holy Bible. The three basic reason for this is that the secular education has been totally corrupted by Satan hence, the Holy Spirit commanded us in Romans 12: 2:" Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will." You can't discover His Will for your life now that you are one of His Own until you read His Word. Second, there is a spiritual war afoot and in the not-too-distant Time Street over your life now that you are a child of the King. Satan and his demons, including their human agents will fight to bring you back to their cursed and darkened kingdom. You need to know how to fight through the deployment of the Word of God, because from now onward, "… our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:12-17). Thirdly, you need the Word of God for good success according to Joshua 1:8: "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."
