istory, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder. No matter its beauty-ugliness, history is prone to manipulations. In our individual journey of life, we are all making history, but we do not have the power to decide how history will judge us. The 43rd president of the United States once was asked how history would remember his eight years in office; George W. Bush cryptically retorted "We will all be dead." He was half-right, because the one who writes history for judgment is he who lives long enough in the journey of life to give account of today's events for tomorrow's readers. Albeit, Bush added a footnote to how history would treat him: "I'm just not going to be around to see the final verdict." Former British Prime Minister and wartime general, Winston L. Churchill was asked how history would remember him. He replied brusquely; "History will be kind to me because I intend to write it." At the dusk of life, we all fear and even dread how we shall be remembered. Public office holders, like the rest of us are always conscious of their place in history. There are only too historical aisles on the road to eternity; the problems you solved while here and the problems you created during your fleeting moments in this temporal life. On the Other Side too are two discernible avenues: the eternal abode of bliss with the Maker or the eternal abode of doom with Satan. There is no median lane and we each decide here and how now where we shall finally end up.
A Revisionist History in Un-statesmanship

In Nigeria, it is nil-de rigueur for public office holders to chronicle their years in public office until most recently. The strongmen of yesteryears who seized power by the gun are now writing their histories, whether most of their accounts were their own words or ghost-written, we should give them the benefit of the doubt. So, it is good for the Khaki Boys to write, but can they be trusted to tell the truth? Are they writing to let us into the mechanics and the inter-play of forces that shaped their decision-making while in office they seized by the barrel of gun? What do they want to achieve by writing their histories especially in a nation where History has now been nixed as a subject? The True Lord God Almighty Himself as the Great Divine is the Only One making history as the Great Alone, Hallelujah! The rest of us are just actors and actresses in the Play of Life a la Shakespeare; "Life's but a walking shadow, A poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." (Macbeth, Act 5, Scene 5). Historically, those were the last words of Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria's head of state and wartime general on July 29, 1975 in far-away Kampala, Uganda when he was informed at the then meeting of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) that he had been toppled back home in Nigeria. From there, he went into exile in the UK.
The players of Nigerian politics; a potpourri of retired and expired military generals, discarded, discomforted and discomfited politicians, del credere business men and women and crème de la crème of Nigeria's Cargo cults gathered last week to witness the book launching jamboree of one of their leaders; Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. As often with the mindless and backward privileged elites in Africa's stunted giant, they outdid themselves in shelling out billions of Naira in a nation that couldn't guarantee steady power supply for its citizens and running water for the masses. In a sane nation, a character like Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida should have been cooling his feet in prison by now for the series of atrocities he inflicted on Nigerians during his disastrous years in office. But this is Nigeria where morality is such at a bizarre discount and ethics has taken flight. The book is titled: "A Journey in Service; The Autobiography of Ibrahim Babangida." The hagiographical autobiography drib with majority of Nigerians moue of disappointment just as he did in his eight disastrous years in office and lamentably 32 years he left office in public obloquy. In office, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida elevated mendacities as statecraft policies and diddles as official pastimes compelling my coeval at the defunct National Concord Newspapers, Okey Ndibe to tag Babangida with the apt cognomen; Maradona. We saw the same fibbing and fobbing in every ink throughout the 449 pages of the book. If the objective in penning this nonsensical biography was for self-redemption against the gruesome backdrop of the monumental afflictions visited on hapless Nigerians during his ruinous era in Nigerian history, Babangida failed abysmally. In this book, he lived up to his other moniker as the Evil Genius" indeed! Not only did he twist history, but at 83 years old, Babangida is still telling lies down the street to Sheol.
On the pages of this so-called autobiography, we saw Babangida-que at his worst; the man who with braggadocio informed the Nigerian public at the height of his infamy in the '80s that the buck stopped at his desk began buck-passing. His alter-ego and comrade-in-crime, Sani Abacha, the schizoid became the fall guy. All the prominent dramatis personae that engineered the June 12 imbroglio, except the lickspittle Nduka Irabor, are all dead. In my books; Asiwaju and Omoluabi, my co-author and I revealed the real and authentic reason Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida annulled the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election victory of Chief MKO Abiola. We revealed inter alia that the reason Babangida annulled the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election victory of his close chum, Chief MKO Abiola was the controversy over the stolen Liberian money by late President Samuel Kanyon Doe kept in Abiola's possession which the latter refused to release aftermath of Doe's death. "This was the cloak and dagger of the June 12, 1993 presidential election annulment. Gen. Babangida and Abiola kept this to themselves and wouldn't divulge during the crises, while innocent Nigerians died needlessly, because of the political debacle." Why did Babangida not disclose to his fellow country men and women how he and his kinsman, Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar plotted the deaths of both Sani Abacha and MKO Abiola a month apart in summer 1998? If Babangida was a hero in disarming Col. Bukar Sukar Dimka during the abortive military coup of February 13, 1976 which tragically claimed the life of that gallant hero, Gen. Murtala Ramat Muhammad, the then head of state, we saw a cowardly Babangida in his hagiographical treatise. Here are our real investigative and intelligence sourced account on how the duo of Babangida and Abubakar pushed both Abacha and Abiola in June and July 1998 respectively: "…Gen. Sani Abacha signed his own death warrant precisely on December 8, 1997 the day retired Gen. Shehu Musa Yar'Adua was killed inside Abakaliki prison, in present day Ebonyi state. …According to dependable sources within the America's CIA and intelligence sources here in Washington D.C.; …"After five years of carefully kept silence under Abacha, Babangida began making statements a couple of weeks to Abacha's death… those were unambiguous signals about the need to bring military rule in Nigeria to an end. Gen. Babangida's sudden change of behavior seemed very unusual at that time, but in retrospect now, it seems they-referring to the Kaduna Mafia-may have expressed a powerful tide that was already moving against Abacha, and aimed to sweep him away, if necessary….With Gen. Sani Abacha, out of the way, three further decisions were made by the power brokers; who to succeed Abacha-Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar-what to do with Chief MKO Abiola-who was in detention-and who to hand over political power to as a sop to the south-west Yoruba people over the murder of Chief MKO Abiola and finally buried the ghost of June 12, 1993…" (See Pp. 256-264 of Asiwaju; The Biography of Bolanle Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu, 2017)
How dare Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida lie to his teeth in his so-called autobiography that he didn't murder Dele Giwa, the pioneer and founding editor-in-chief of defunct Newswatch? The trio of Ray Ekpu, Dan Agbese and Yakubu Muhammad are still alive to counter Babangida's twisted history on the murder of that brilliant US-trained Nigerian wordsmith, late Dele Giwa. It was Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, as head of the junta that gave the order to Gen. Aliyu Muhammad Gusau and his criminal gangsters at DMI Apapa, Lagos to murder Dele Giwa in October 1986 because Dele Giwa was investigating the late First Lady, Maryam Babangida, who was involved in cocaine and heroin smuggling. Mrs. Maryam Babangida (nee King) was in the business of recruiting young Nigerian ladies, among them Gloria Okon as drug "mules" and her activities reached the top echelons of the military hierarchy during the Buhari military regime. How I wish Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon was alive to take Babangida to the cleaners, because Muhammadu Buhari is a dour man in and out of office and a cold-footed military general. As I courageously reported in my samizdat 30 years ago and I repeat it for the umpteenth time and the CIA and the National Intelligence Agency here in the United States have the files to confirm these stories. In addition, books have been written and for those in the know are aware of these dark secrets of the Evil Man of Nigeria.
Babangida wants to write his history before he goes like the rest mortals, but he has re-written his history. The Nigerian Press will have a lot to write about this man, but not now but after his passing. Babangida and his military rascals did not topple the Buhari-Idiagbon regime because of the regime's "holier than-thou" attitude according to him in his Journey In Dis-Service but because his military career was on the line and he was about to be retired from the Nigerian Army. Babangida staged the August 26/27 military coup for self-preservation. As a matter of fact, the Army had already penciled Brigadier Aliyu Muhammed Gusau for retirement but his retirement was yet to be in the Armed Forces Gazette before they struck. This same Gusau later became NSA to Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2003 and recalled as NSA by Goodluck Jonathan.

The pages of the book were laced with fibs and paradiddles. The wily general dodged and skimble-skamble on many allegations and atrocities committed by him and his henchmen while in office illegally instead of confronting them headlong. He twisted events, stood naked truth on its head and forgot there are still remnants of his victims not suffering Nigeriamnesia. This is A Journey In Dis- Service to Babangida himself in his quest for self-redemption and a positive mention in history but more importantly a tragic dis-service to many Nigerians still reeling from his ruinous regime 32 years he abdicated power. Babangida's ambivalent choleric character showed in his maudlin words over the June 12 saga as he seems to be pleading for leniency from the court of Nigeria's public opinion while simultaneously hokey as a self-proclaimed tough military general in office, but any perceptive mind who knows the psychological make-up of bullies would easily detect that inside is a self-important little man. Babangida is a sniveling self-seeker and a pathological narcissist even at the waning age of 83. He is clever-by-half in cheating history for now, but he cannot beat Posterity.

Now that you have accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ which He truly is, you need to saturate yourself with the Word of God so you can grow in your new faith. You need to change and renew your mind with the Words of God which are contained in the Greatest Book on earth given to humanity as a compass to navigate our paths in this Satanically-controlled and demon-infested earth following the fall of our First Parents in the Garden of Eden. That Book is the Holy Bible. The three basic reason for this is that the secular education has been totally corrupted by Satan hence, the Holy Spirit commanded us in Romans 12: 2:" Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will." You can't discover His Will for your life now that you are one of His Own until you read His Word. Second, there is a spiritual war afoot and in the not-too-distant Time Street over your life now that you are a child of the King. Satan and his demons, including their human agents will fight to bring you back to their cursed and darkened kingdom. You need to know how to fight through the deployment of the Word of God, because from now onward, "… our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:12-17). Thirdly, you need the Word of God for good success according to Joshua 1:8: "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."
