When Ojukwu was alive, Gowon did not dispute anything Ojukwu said. Now that Ojukwu is dead, Gowon is going about like a chest thumping pumpijee boasting about his role in a war that was fought to keep exploiting the goose that lays the golden eggs.
Looking at Nigeria today, I wonder what Gowon fought for. Did Gowon ever imagine that he fought for Fulani terrorists to displace his people from their ancestral homes?
On April 2, 2025, another massacre by Fulani terrorists took place in Bokkos LGA, over 50 people were killed in cold blood. This was followed less than two weeks later by another attack, this time in Iregwe Chiefdom, Bassa LGA where 51 more people were slaughtered on April 13.
Look at the killings in plateau state. Has Gowon ever said anything about Boko Haram, Fulani Terrorism and the bandits of Zamfara?
No, he dare not talk about the real problems of Nigeria. He remained guilt ridden and tongue tied because his betrayal of an agreement he signed led to a civil war. Instead of being honest, like a typical Nigerian political leader, he is trying to create facts out of lies and his imaginations.
Yes, mistakes were made on both sides, but to proclaim no victor no vanquished and refuse to implement a reconstruction and rehabilitation plan is hypocrisy to say the least. Gowon and his fellow victors ensured that The money of Igbos in Nigerian banks were confiscated to impoverish Igbos and exclude Igbos from privatisation of nationalised assets. Now at the end of his life, he wants to rewrite history. This is a big shame.
If Gowon is an honest man, he would have said all the rubbish he is sprouting out now, when Ojukwu was alive. He would have ensured equity for Igbos and did something about abandoned properties, and reconstruction of Igbo land after the war.
Ojukwu led Igbos to a war and lost. Ojukwu had his character flaws and ego. But what Ojukwu was not is a lier. Ojukwu was not a Coward. Gowon, the civil war ended more than 50 years ago, what did you do for Nigeria afterwards? Nigeria from One Naira to one pound to one pound to 2000 Naira. This is your legacy and that of all the criminals, jihadists Igbo haters and ethnic irredentist that came after you.
Yes, I am miffed. Igbos do not regret fighting the civil war. Igbos are sad that we lost. Brave people we are, we accepted our loss and agreed to be part of Nigeria. Since then, we have been treated as second class citizens. Today, the result is a Nigeria in the image of those who hate Igbos. The Nigeria of today was created by the Gowons and their Fulani masters.
Nigeria will never get better, unless the discrimination and marginalisation of Igbos and other ethnic groups are ended. Igbos are nation builders. Igbos are wealth creators.
Gowon and co destroyed Nigeria by discriminating against the only people whose nature is nation building.
There can never be a one Nigeria without the only tribe who believe in it, not because they want to exploit it, but because they want it to be a reality.
Today, it is obvious why the north wants one Nigeria. A house divide amongst itself cannot stand. Gowon, Nigeria has a Fulani problem, why not focus on it and leave Igbos alone.
