Watching the shenanigans in Nigeria today, one cannot, but think of the monkey king. If not, how can one make sense of the shear arrogance, insensitivity and idiocy that has become the decisions and behaviours of those in power in Nigeria.
The unfortunate reality is that it does not look likely that the Nigerian political class can be reeducated as was the case of with the monkey King, who eventually achieved enlightenment through Buddhism.
The Nigerian political class have taken criminality, impunity, absurdity and insensitivity to a new height. The echoes of utterances of Akpabio, the rascality of Wike and others are features of the disease that is destroying Nigerian democracy. It is obvious that without changing their ways and realising that power, without, honesty, humility and the aim to do justice and good, will only result in evil. Is Nigeria is doomed?
Democracy seems to have brought out the worst in Nigerian politicians, unleashed greed and ended honesty and civil conduct.
With the entrenchment and normalisation of criminality in Nigerian politics, the chance of a free and fair election that would deliver the choice of the people is almost impossible. When those who are supposed to stop the thief, are the ones opening the door and delivering the loot, what chance has the owner of the house?
Democracy must be reinvented in Nigeria to address the excesses of Nigerian politicians. The way Nigerians choose those who exercise power over them has to sanitised to give Nigeria a chance.
Nigeria is completely broken. It has reached the point where force is used without intelligence and kindness, the two most important facts that enable force to achieve goodness. Under the circumstance the outcome is predictable.
The Nigeria of today is a country where the leaders have completely lost their way to the extent that the absurd has become the normal.
In Nigeria, democracy has failed and it the outcome of elections is no longer determined by vote. The state has been hijacked by the same people who robbed the state treasury.
The only alternative for Nigeria now would seem violence revolution. Sadly, those in position to lead this are in the pocket of the politicians. Nigeria appears to be far too gone. Nigeria is daily looking as if it will be inherited by armed Fulanis and become a jungle where only the armed survives. The foundation for a civil society in Nigeria has been seriously damaged. Some people say , only God can help Nigeria now. I do not know who God can use. Nigerians must remember that democracy fails, when the rule of law is ignored and criminality rewarded.
