The Christian Lent is equally starting.
I often say that Islam and Christianity share many things in common and if the leaders on the two sides work in unison, they can make Nigeria great, so that the wealth of the nation can reach all and sundry, thereby. eliminate hunger and poverty in the land.
But those who profiteer from religion will not agree. They must do the bidding of their sponsors.
Religious leaders of one faith refers to the other as Kafri or pagan and so cannot work together to fight against those things that are militating against our reproach and progress.
Consider what will become of Nigeria should the Religious leaders of all faiths with unison uphold the teachings of fairness as taught by our books and with one voice warn the Politicians to let the commonwealth spread fairly evenly!!
Unfortunately, they are consumed, seeking their individual comfort.
And because we have no single voice, Politicians have no fear stealing the commonwealth and they adapt selective generosity, becoming philanthropists with the public money and extend it to the Religious leaders themselves thereby gag them from speaking the truth.
The countries, where we all crave to live, who knows the door of their Politicians, talk less of worshipping them? But here, we worship our Politicians in order to have the crumbs that fall off their tables and anyone who cannot do that, dies in his poverty.
My prayer is that our Religious leaders will use this season of Ramadan and Lent to have a rethink and initiate plans to work together in order to correct the ills of our nation, particularly to eliminate hunger and poverty so that our journey to heaven can become easier because poverty can make anyone to dip his hands into sin and miss heaven.
Observation and Counsel is from the Peoples' Church. Pastor is Sam Aweda.
