Link to the song:

By Alfred Obiora Uzokwe For a long time, starting from around age 7, I always sang in the choir. In the process, I came to learn a lot of songs from the old time Ancient and Modern hymnal. Along the way, I also learned a lot of gospel songs. One of the songs I recently learned is called “God on the Mountain” by Bill and Gloria Gaither. I was full of exhilaration the first time I heard the song in my church sometime last year. I immediately knew it was a song I would love to play. This song is not only melodious but sends a message I characterize as practical Christianity. A portion of the song reads, “Life is easy when you’re up on the mountain When you got peace of mind, like you’ve never known But when things change and your down in the valley That’s when your faith is really put to the test” I call the lyrics of this song a lesson in practical Christianity for the following reason. These days, all manners of people prance around, creating the impression that they are infallible and can do no wrong in the Christian realm. They look down on others as if Christendom is theirs and only theirs. They believe that their faith is unshakable, and nothing can go wrong or dislodge them from the imaginary hallowed spot they perch on. But in line with the lyrics of this song, life can feel easy when you are up in the mountain, meaning when you have not really tasted adversity. At that point, you feel like your faith is unshakable. But the truth is that you can only tell how strong your faith is when you have tasted adversity which the songs refers to as being in “the valley” and still keep your faith. Anyway, I am not preaching because I am not qualified to. I am just stating a fact I gleaned from this song, which is what makes it beautiful and why I played and sang it. Enjoy the song like I have folks!
