PRESIDENTIAL DIALOGUE WITH NIGERIANS IN THE DIASPORA

We thank you for your prompt response and registration to participate in the forthcoming Presidential dialogue with Nigerian professionals in the Diaspora. Your desire to be part of the historic event is commendable. It is also a measure of your patriotism and great interest to make meaningful contributions to President Olusegun Obasanjo's efforts and determination to rebuild Nigeria and lay a strong foundation for Nigeria of the 21st century.

2. The President at whose initiative this conference is being conveyed is fully aware and appreciative of your interest to participate in the dialogue.. He looks forward to seeing you in Atlanta and to listen to your patriotic views on the many challenges facing the country and how, collectively we can help chat a new and dynamic course for our fatherland.

3. We, at the Consulate-General of Nigeria, in Atlanta, are also looking forward to seeing you at the conference and hereby solicit your cooperation in ensuring the success of the conference. In this regard, it will be highly appreciated if the following are noted:-

A. REGISTRATION

Pre-conference Registration

i) Pre-conference registration closes on Monday, August 28, 2000. It is essential, for logistics and security reasons, for those still interested in participating in the conference to register latest by August 25, 2000. Registration can be made by Fax or E-mail. ii) Conference registration will take place on Friday, September 8, 2000, at the Conference Center, beginning from 12 noon till 12 midnight. All participants are kindly advised, and requested to endeavor to register on Friday 8, 2000 as there might be no registration on Saturday, September 9, 2000. Besides, for security reasons, nobody without a conference badge will be allowed into the main conference room.

Conference Papers

Those interested in submitting the summary or extended abstract of their thoughts and ideas on the underlisted topics are free to do so. The written presentation, of not more than three pages (double space) should be forwarded to the Consulate General of Nigeria, Atlanta not later than September 1, 2000 either by e-mail or fax.

ii) Health Care Delivery in Nigeria, the reforms and The way Forward. iii) Education in Nigeria: Which Way forward in the 21st century.

iv) Creation and Transfer of Technology for the Rapid Industrialization of Nigeria.

v) Sustaining Democracy in Nigeria.

It is suggested that discussions of these topics should include the following:

i) How Nigerians in the Diaspora can contribute to the development of Nigeria.

ii) Issue of Brain Drain.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2000

The Pre-Conference Consultation at Committee levels will be held on Friday, September 8, 2000, from 5 - 10 p.m., also at the Convention Center. It will be preceded by a plenary session starting at 3.30 pm. The Federal Ministers of Education, Health, Science and Technology, the Chief Economic Adviser to the President other Federal representatives and Presidential advisers are expected to attend the plenary sessions and the committee meetings.
