HAIR BONDING

air cuts and hairstyles are part of our personal care. Some have come to find out a style that fits their facial structure. So they visit the hair salon with a specific look in mind. Well, for so many others it is a trial and error process. Maybe what the hairstylist says suits you. Or a style seen on a friend, or in a magazine. The hair is a very important factor that can enhance your look. Whoever you entrust your hair to, you will discover that there is a kind of bond that builds up if you are consistent with them. You just feel that the person understands your hair. They know how to bring out the best in you. Making you feel good about how you look. So you don’t mind how long the queue is or how far the salon is, you will wait for Mr T or Aunty B to work their wonders on your hair.

As adults care for their hair, we also do the same for our children. The little ones can’t really decide what they want, so we have to help them look good. Growing up, I remember my mum plaiting my hair. It was a good bonding moment for us. Just sitting at her feet and leaning my head on her legs as she worked on my hair. Oh my, the wonderful hairstyles she used to make with hair thread. Ah, but there were some hairstyles that I could not laugh after the hair was done because it was very tight and painful! And I had to go to school with some very funny styles like “periwinkles” and “telephone wire”. But now these hairstyles are back again with natural Afro hairdressers. My mum really enjoyed plaiting my hair. It is still one of my best childhood memories.

Some dads are also very good barbers. Some used to practice back in the days with “razor blade and comb” before they could buy clippers. You see pride and joy on a dad’s face when he has just given his son a wonderful haircut! It is like his masterpiece! His son’s well-carved haircut! It is a beautiful bonding moment for father and son. That time spent together will forever be remembered. It is such a precious moment.

Having a little girl is certainly an experience. You have to dress her up in matching hair accessories and think of hairstyles almost every time she has to step out of the house. It does help your creativity a lot. But sometimes the crying is so much that you just want to give them a ‘skin hair cut”(clean shave)! But nooooo! Daddy wants his little girl to look like a princess all the time. Daddy is ready to hold little princess just to make sure that her hair is done. Now that is a very beautiful moment…..daddy and mummy plaiting their child’s hair! Family life is really full of many moments that we can bond.

Just thinking about our hair makes me appreciate the fact that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by the Almighty God. He put in so much care, effort and details in creating our hair. Do you know that He knows the number of hair strands on your head? Do you know that each morning when you comb your hair and some tiny strands fall off, He knows even you are not aware of it? It is really awesome to know that the Almighty cares about every detail of our lives. If He cares for your hair which you think is not so significant, then think of how much He cares for your life. He also cares for your soul and you can completely trust Him with all that concerns you. His thoughts towards you are of peace, to give you a hope and a future.
