FOR HAIR SAKE

Ladies in waiting
Braiders in waiting
Hours of waiting
Hours of plaiting
For beauty sake
Oh for hair sake!

Learners in training
Experts in braiding
Experts in weaving-
Beauty in the making
Head and neck twisting
Pulling and stretching,
Bum aches and head aches
For beauty sake-
For hair sake
Oh what women would endure!

WRAPPER

Akwete clothe-African Wax....
Wrapped in layers or singles
Wrapped around your waist
Wrapped around your hips
Wrapped down to your ankles;
You are wrapped up in your roots
You are wrapped up in elegance.

Oh, my wrapper wraps me up at night!
From my grandma to my mama
From my mama to me
From me to my daughter
Wrapper must be passed on,
Wrapperwrapping generations in roots and elegance!

MYMIXING SPOON

The day it broke
My heart broke-
My faithful cooking aid;
It was my extra hand-
It stirred and tossed my vegetables
It stirred and tossed my fried rice
It stirred and folded my jollof rice
It kissed the bottom of the pot
It united the ingredients-
My mixing spoon, my wooden friend!

It stirred the cake batter
It stirred the muffin batter
Now it is broken and battered!
Oh, my able "servant", will I find one as faithful?
One strong enough to twist, turn, and flip my amala
One strong enough to twist, turn, and flip my eba
One strong enough to twist, turn, and flip my pounded yam-
My extra hand my 'handy" hand.
My kitchen has lost a wooden friend.
