TRIBUTE TO MY FORMER PROFESSOR, FRIEND AND MENTOR, PROF. ADEBOWALE ADEFUYE,
NIGERIA'S AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED STATES

Late Prof. Adebowale Adefuye, Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States

ife is extremely tenuous and our individual sojourn here on earth is intensely giddy and unpredictable. I was planning to unveil what the Holy Spirit showed me on who succeeds the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II this week when the news came that Nigeria has been deprived of a great patriot. I couldn't resist postponing the Ooni prophecy and instead concentrate on these well deserved ode and befitting panegyrics' to my former teacher, friend, mentor and Nigeria's ambassador to the United States of America, Professor Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye. I do not like writing tributes to people I do not know intimately, because human beings parade different personas at different times thus making it difficult for a writer or author to capture the multi-faceted lives of some peoples. As our Lord Jesus Christ clinically dissected the human race, what is wrong with the human race is not political system, leadership, poverty, ideological differences, psychological imbalances of office holders, corruption and the rest ephemeral factors we often cite and advance for the sorry state of the human race. The Creator Himself looks at His created beings and told us off-pat what is wrong with each and every one of us, yes, you and me; the problem with us is the human heart. Out of the abundance of the human heart the mouth speaks, the Lord says and what causes wars, fights, frictions and struggles among you human beings?

There are people you thought you actually knew and affectionately admired their enviable lives only to discover they are afflicted with the same ailments that diminish each and every one of us members of the Homo sapiens from yore, as soon as they died. Like a late uncle of mine who I recently found out sired a child out of wedlock. He presented a saintly persona when he was here with us only for me to discover he was just like the "rest of them too" when he was alive. This is the cruel fate Death does to each of us; he not only takes us from here to the Other World, he unmasks our world right from the cradle. Not only is the Grim Reaper the period of earthly existence, but he unearths our entire life from cradle and exposes all our dark secrets for the world here on earth behind our back. Because we are no more around to offer explanations, excuses, make amends or defend ourselves, the sting of death is crueler to us in life than in the life beyond. There is only one sure way each and every one of us can take our comeuppance over Death and have a laugh at him in the end; assurances that although Death can take us out in the first relay of life, ultimately we shall triumph over him and look at the Grim Reaper straight in the eye at the Eternal Divide and shout as 1 Corinthians 15: 55 assured us: ""Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" There is only one assured way to grow to this ten feet tall height over Death on the Final Seat of Divine Court of Justice under the Lord Jesus Feet and that is if you knew and accepted Him as your Lord and Eternal Savior. That is where to begin my tribute to Prof. Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye.

Our paths crossed at the University of Lagos nearly thirty years ago. I entered Nigeria's most cosmopolitan and prestigious university, the University of Lagos, Akoka, few weeks shy of my 18th birthday in the 80s. I had no clue what I wanted to become which was no surprise in an educational system bereft of counseling and career preparation. I entered to read Education and I hated the course, because I encountered average and not so bright colleagues that couldn't stand me in critical thinking and rigorous academic standing studying professional courses. I knew given the opportunity, I would perform better than and bested these average students, but in those days, it was what you read rather than what you could do or become in life that was priority in academic standing and Nigeria's tertiary education. I doubt if that situation has changed. I didn't discover that until I came to the United States and profited from the best education in the world. While an undergraduate at Unilag, I drifted academically and wasted my time. But one of the teachers who first discovered my potential as a writer, author, journalist and polemicist was late Prof Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye. He was a History teacher and I took one of his courses in African History or something to that effect and he gave us an essay to write. He came to the class and began to do a critic of scripts turned in and when he picked mine, he asked me to see him in his office. I didn't know what was wrong. As soon as I entered his office in the Arts Building, he looked at me with my script in his front. "You are Moshood Fayemiwo?" I affirmed. "What are you doing in History Department?" I was flummoxed. I was a student in Education expected to take courses in other departments and History courses were available. He noticed my uneasiness and calmly explained that, he noticed my style of writing. "You write very well," he explained. "You have good command of the English Language and you are better off reading Journalism or Mass Communication." That keen observation by Adefuye paved the way for my writing career. Of course, much later when I arrived here in the States, I proceeded to earn three masters degrees, including Journalism/mass communication and a doctorate, the seeds for those later achievements were sown by Dr Adefuye's words three decades earlier in Nigeria. Our paths did not cross again until he was posted to the United States as ambassador.

We met in New York in 2010 when former President Goodluck Jonathan paid his maiden state visit to the United Nations. Prior to our meeting where he granted his first interview to me at his new posting at the Nigerian Embassy in D. C, another mentor, Dr John Negroponte, the first Director of the United States National Intelligence and 15th U.S. Deputy Secretary of States among his numerous posts had asked me about Adefuye's background. I informed Ambassador Negroponte that Adefuye was my former teacher and by the time both met, they hit it off. Of course, Adefuye didn't know I knew Ambassador Negroponte until both met in Adefuye's office in D.C. Our relationship was rekindled by his proud advertisement of his former student who has also become a doctor and he never tired to showcase me to his fellow ambassadors in several fora. Through Adefuye's efforts, a colleague of mine and I were later to collaborate on what would have become the definitive authoritative official biography of former President Goodluck Jonathan. As we met in New York to work on the project, it was Ambassador Adefuye who brought the late Mr. Pronto Douglas, Mrs. Moremi Soyinka-Onilaja and other stake holders into the book project. Unfortunately, Oronto Douglas was selfish and thought he was craftier than us who started the project. As Senior Adviser on Mobilization and Strategy to former President Jonathan, Douglas thought he could outsmart us and I warned him he would not survive his perfidious behavior and today, he is no more. But it was to the credit of Ambassador Adefuye that he gave us all the logistics we needed to write the Jonathan Biography even volunteering to foreword the biography. Of course, the original concept of the biography was aborted but even after I called Ambassador Adefuye about tweaking with the original project, he displayed the academic in him, insisting he would never censor me. " Moshood, you know me that I will not dictate your political views, and at any rate, you will write what you want to write anyway, because I know you, but take into consideration the impact on my role. They have been calling me from Abuja about the promo of the book." I knew he was referring to the late Oronto Douglas but I stood my ground and our mentor-mentee relationship remained intact, in spite of the spat caused by the Jonathan Biography. Towards the tail end of the Jonathan Disaster when the ex-president had exhausted all goodwill and was highly radioactive, Ambassaor Adefuye requested for an advanced copy of the rejigged biography of the newly titled: " Jonathan: The Squandering of Goodwill." He later called me up from DC and we discussed extensively on the biography and my predictions about Jonathan's defeat. He made me understand he was Nigeria's Ambassador and not Jonathan's man. All forgiven and our normal relationship resumed.

Prof Adefuye was a rare gentleman and a top notch diplomat per excellence. He served Nigeria in numerous diplomatic postings and discharged his responsibilities patriotically. A very confident intellectual completely detribalized, urbane and sophisticated, often obstructive in sensitive matters of statecraft and diplomacy. He will sorely be missed. I am happy our paths crossed. But more importantly, he knew the Lord Jesus Christ and his greatest success and achievement was not only as Nigeria's ambassador in the United States but as the ambassador of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on earth for as Apostle Paul aptly noticed in 2Corinthians 5:20 "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God." Ambassador Adefuye not only reconciled with his Creator while here with us, he was also one his worthy ambassadors. The last prayer he had with his amiable wife as he commenced his eternal journey was a testament to his Christian faith. Rest in Peace Prof.

WHO WOULD BE THE NEXT OONI OF IFE?

When the Holy Spirit showed us in December 2014 the demise of Oba Okunade Sijuade Olubuse II the Ooni of Ife we announced it not to celebrate the demise of the monarch, but first, to show that only the Lord Jesus Christ knows the future and the lives of all human beings are in His Hand so every soul on earth should humble themselves and bow down to the King of kings and Lord of lords as the Psalmist admonished us all: "May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him." Psalm 72:11. Another reason is to demonstrate the power of the True Lord God Almighty in our ministry. When we predicted the death of the Ooni or any person for that matter, we expect the person to enter into prayer warfare against the plan of Satan in such a person's life. It is an opportunity for the person to get it right before the Lord. But lamentably, some people will discount our spiritual warning. Such people will not live with the consequences of their lack of faith to approach the Throne of God's Tabernacle. As the jostling and jockeying for the Ife stool begin in earnest, we will disclose what the Holy Spirit is showing us in this column next week.

WHY NYESSON WIKE WILL VACATE GOVERNMENT HOUSE IN RIVERS STATE AS A GOVERNOR?

Earlier in the year, we prophesied about the future political dispensation in Rivers State in the current dispensation. This was part of our overall prophecies for the rest of the states in Nigeria. Pointedly, we want to remind readers of what we prophesied then as published here on Thursday April 02, 2015. Here is the link to that prophetic revelation https://nigeriaworld.com/feature/publication/fayemiwo/040715.html. For Rivers State, these were our exact words: "RIVERS STATE: Nyessom Wike will put up a great fight in Rivers State and the election here may be suspended or inclusive (inconclusive). Many political supporters will die and voter irregularities will be widespread. Although Wike may be declared the winner, but he will not finish his term. Dakuku Peterside will govern the state like Rotimi Amaechi via the court process."

The governorship election is gone and Mr. Nyessom Wike was able to cash in on the federal might provided him by former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience who turned Rivers State into battle of wits between an incredibly shrinking president on his way out and a popular sitting Gov Rotimi Amaechi. Well. The scorched earth policy of the agents of the Jonathans led to a minefield of deaths, assassinations and assaults in Rivers State leading to the "victory" of Mr. Wike. Now that he is sitting on pile of public money which he can dispense with careless abandon, Wike has been moving from pillar to post to keep his job. But the most annoying aspect of the people's robbery orchestrated by Mr. Wike and his political thugs in the rivers of controversy is how Wike is moving from one church and pastor to the other to foist himself on the good people of Rivers State. And in Nigeria, there are large retinues of cash and carry pastors who are ready and willing to "pray" for Mr. Wike.

*Nyessom Wike will not finish his first term (Left) and Dakuku Peterside will be governor of Rivers State(Right) at the Election Tribunal and at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

In Nigeria where, if the prayer price is right, you can get a good prayer to make any malfeasance look and appear virtuous, Mr. Wike is borrowing from the play book of his couple benefactors: Jonathan and Patience. Just like the former First Couple threw money around to stay in power and hired all manners of cash and carry pastors and failed, Mr. Wike is desperate to buy legitimacy. The more the prayers, the more heavens will be bombarded to side with Wike. But not so fast Mr. Wike. You cant steal the people's mandate and then ask the true Lord God Almighty to bless the loot, because the Lord God Almighty commanded in the Decalogue: "Thou shall not steal" (Exodus 20:15). Like Jonathan who went to Israel with his cash and carry pastors to win the last presidential election, but also went to the Ogboni Confraternity in Ile-Ife, Wike too has crisscrossed Rivers State in churches of different stripes while still holding nocturnal meeting with his occult backers. Let Wike enlist all the marine and celestial demons in Rivers State and beyond to keep his stolen job, he will be unseated. Mr. Dakuku Adolphus Peterside will still be declared the winner of the last gubernatorial election in Rivers State as the Holy Spirit showed us before the election. When the Election Petition Tribunal renders its verdict, Wike will appeal but as we prophesied before and we are reiterating now, Wike will be removed and Dakuku Peterside will govern Rivers State.

All those pastors that Wike has consulted and will be consulting should have told him that he will not rule River State for four years. You cannot steal which was the crime committed by Wike and the PDP last summer and expect the Sovereign Lord God Almighty to legitimize what He has outlawed. No prayer offered by any man or woman of God to a thief will be answered by the Lord God Almighty. The souls of those human beings killed and murdered by Wike's political thugs will and must be stoned for; thus, as we warned former President Jonathan in the last presidential election, as we also warned Mr. Jimi Agbaje of Lagos State when he approached the Election Petition Tribunal to unseat Gov Ambode of Lagos State and lost; just as we warned in Oyo, Ogun, Taraba, Imo and the rest states, Mr. Wike will lose at both the Election Petition Tribunal and also at the Appellate Court and finally, let him approach the Supreme Court, he will be asked to vacate the Government House, Port Harcourt. Nothing has changed since we prophesied the governorship election in Rivers State almost six months ago.

MR ALAIBE AND APC SHOULD DO SOMETHING ELSE IN BAYLESA STATE

Mr. Tim Alaibe and his supporters should find something worthwhile to do with their lives. We made it plain here in this column few weeks ago and we are reiterating same again, Governor Seriaka Divkson of the PDP will win his election for a second term square and clear in Bayelsa State. Even if Alaibe empties the Central Bank of Nigeria to spend crazily in order to win votes, he is just wasting his money and he will not win the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State. Even if former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience decamp from the PDP to APC, Gov Dickson will still win his second and final term. Mr. Dickson isn't coming back because he is a member of the PDP, but is coming back because of Divine Intervention.
