"Making Nigeria a Land of Praise" Flash Back of Events in 2013 (1) Town Hall Meeting May 18. (Jesus for the World Revival Mission, Peoples' Church, Peoples' Rescue Mission)

uch has been said about the poverty that pervades majority of Nigerians. Most live in squalor; in homes, which goats will protest, are they able to talk, if put there.

The poverty is uncalled for because the country has enough revenue to make Nigerians live comfortably in their own country.

Most Nigerians living outside the shores of Nigeria will prefer to live in Nigeria, should they be accorded the benefit of a modest life at home.

Jesus for the World Revival Mission, People's Church, Peoples' Rescue Mission has taken it upon itself to go beyond talking but take positive steps to reverse the situation and make the country "A Land of Praise"

Corruption, selfishness, greed, lack of pride and commitment to the nation is responsible for the poverty and the shameful outlook of the nation, where all infrastructures are broken down and neglected.

Those who are at the corridor of power steal the people's wealth recklessly, pile it in banks abroad and buy mansions, which they do not live in for more than 2months a year. Their children cruise about, abroad, in private jets purchased with Nigeria money.

Unfortunately, Nigerians are so docile, satisfied to live in their pitiful condition. Those who are close to the rogues in power are satisfied with the crumbs that fall off the tables of their masters.

To change the mindset of Nigerians, make them work towards living a minimum life comfort, which will reduce their temptation to sin, which in turn, will allow them a place in heaven, is the objective of our Mission.

Our weapon is the "word" of God, which is mighty to pull down strongholds i.e proud arguments; casting down every imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and subjecting into captivity every human thought to the obedience of Christ (2Cor.10:4)

So the Mission organized a Town Hall Conference tagged "Making Nigeria a Land of Praise" where citizens would interact and chat on how we can curb corruption and make the wealth of the nation available to all citizens.

The Town Hall Conference held on May 18 at Circular Hotel, Ilorin and it was a great success. The success was beyond human's imagination.

The hall was filled to capacity by a crowd who were enthusiastic to have a solution to the poverty that bedevils the nation.

People came not only from Ilorin & environ but from surrounding states.

With the outcome of the conference, I can deduce that the generality of the citizens want a way out of the present situation where the wealth of the nation is in a few hands and they are only waiting for someone to lead the crusade against the injustice and for them to follow.

Someone wrote "The roll call at the hall were full of notable personalities and the generalities that cut across religions, age groupings, gender and journalists from various media"

A former Secretary & Head of Service in the Kwara State Government in person of Elder Joshua Ogunlowo gave the Key note address, giving comparative analysis of the service and dedication of the various governments in the past and present. A former President, Court of Appeal and the pioneer Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices & Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in person of Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi (rtd) also gave one.

The speech of Hon. Justice M. Akanbi (rtd) kept the hall dead silent as he gave insight to the depth of corruption in the nation. He asked among other things "How can corruption be fought when the Government, which set up the anticorruption agency itself is 'corruption'?" He said that the Commission he presided over was starved with fund, the national assembly tried to close it down and his driver was killed in an attempt to assassinate him.

With this, I become more convinced that the approach of this mission is the right one to solving the menace of corruption of this nation, which is using the power of the gospel to persuade the hearts of the people to do the right thing. Law enforcement will continue to fail as the apostle Paul puts it "The letter kills i.e the law is ineffective to make us right with God and so ultimately ends in death but living by the Holy Spirit gives life" (2Cor.3:6).

The power of the gospel is our strong weapon, which is able to knock down the Devil's stronghold, breaking down every proud argument that keeps people from knowing God, conquering their rebellious ideas, to teach them to obey Christ (Cor. 10:4-5)

Yes, prayer is good but prayer without work is dead. God said in 1Sam.15: 22 "Hath the LORD great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams"

What is urgent is for our people to be persuaded to do what is right in order to get out of the mess as opposed to gathering them for prayers and after the prayers, return to their dubious, selfish and greedy practices. Sleeping in the Church or Mosque is not the solution. Attending night vigils on high ways is not.

I appeal to all Nigerians of whatever faith in Diaspora to join hands with me in this crusade. Write me today on how you can be involved "[email protected]"

Many Nigerian newspapers reported the story of the meeting the following day, Sunday and days of the week that followed. Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) carried the news twice on Sunday and in different languages.

What enthused most people including the media houses is the number of Moslems at the gathering, which almost outnumbered the Christians in an event organized by a Pastor.

Chief S. A. Adeniyi, 1st Indigenous Principal, St. Paul (Kufena) College, Zaria; Commissioner, Civil Service Commission Kw. St (1967-1975) & Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi, former President, Court of Appeal & Pioneer Chairman Independent Corrupt Practices & Related Offences (ICPC)

What would have made this to happen?

Someone answered it and I quote "Pastor Aweda preaches regularly on Kwara radios (AM & FM) with a popular appeal to the Muslim audience. Moslems & Christians have responded to the themes of the sermons, notably generating hope and encouragement for Nigerians to undertake righteousness for the exaltation of the nation (collective prosperity) and salvation from sins"
