BEAUTIFUL SAHARA DESERT (POEM)

advertisement

have regretted for the umpteenth time
For erecting my conclusions
On preconceived verdicts.
And have come to terms
With the notion that Nature
Is a sly fox by the way
It hides and changes the face of reality.

I have often conceived the Sahara
As only a vast and empty sea of sand
Always swept across
By fierce tropical wind,
A dry and desolate place
Inhabited by desert vipers,
Scorpions and monitor lizards.

But nothing is as it seems in the Sahara.
Its beautiful ridges and sand dunes
Constructed by the invisible hands of the wind
Form a marvellous architectural design.
For the eyes to feast on.
Its oasis is a lush paradise sandwiched
Between the arid and hot environment

Isolated palm trees
With their elegant trunks
Stand straight like the ram-rod
While their green, glossy palm fronds
Sway gently,
Saluting the tropical azure sky,
Offering one a breathtaking site.

I uphold its traits to include
A place of solitude, peace, comfort
And a solace for the Hermit and Monks
In search of inner purification.
Those beautiful traits,
In my candid opinion
Constitute the Saharas silver lining.
