New Jersey, USA

n November 16, 2021, the esteemed governor of Akwa Ibom State added to the litany of his historic achievements the purchase of additional ten A220s to Ibom Air. The news caption by Andre Orban on November 16, 2021 reads "Akwa Ibom State government-owned airline in Nigeria, Ibom Air has signed a firm order for ten A220s at the Dubai Airshow. The signing was done by Mfon Udom, the Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, and Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International in the presence of the Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel"

Nigeria, being the country with the largest population in Africa with largest GDP, offers considerable growth prospective in both domestic and regional travel operations; a fertile platform which Governor Udom Emmanuel is tapping into. The A220 is therefore the ideal choice for a full range of services that range from very short-haul segments to intra-continental air routes and services.

According to Andre Orban, "Ibom Air currently operates two A220s. The A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100-150 seat market; it delivers unbeatable fuel efficiency and a wide-body comfort experience in a single-aisle cabin, with extra-wide seats, more legroom and onboard connectivity for entertainment and communication. Ibom Air operates in Uyo, Abuja, Calabar, Enugu, Lagos, and Port Harcourt. The purchase of the new A220s will enable the airline to continue on its growth path, offering new routes across not just Nigeria, but to the West African region and to Africa at large" but I will add, the world.

According to the chief executive officer of Ibom Air, Mfon Udom, "It gives me great pleasure to be here to announce Ibom Air's order for 10 Airbus A220s. As an organisation, we at Ibom Air are delighted with the steep growth we have achieved in just over two and a half years since we commenced operations, a growth chiefly driven by the massive embrace of our product and brand by the Nigerian domestic flying public. The addition of the A220 to our fleet will support our growth strategy and boost operational efficiency. It will also offer our passengers more space and enhanced cabin experience, as a value-added for choosing us."

In sealing the partnership between Akwa Ibom state and Airbus, the Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, Christian Scherer opined, "We are thrilled to add Ibom Air as a new Airbus customer. The A220 is ideally suited to Nigeria's aviation needs, providing operational flexibility to grow the business by responding to demand for increased passenger services. Through this investment, Ibom Air is underscoring its ambition for regional and in due course, international connectivity and operational efficiency." This is a prediction of the future of Ibom Air.

On another note, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel indicated that "The A220 will allow us to increase the number of annual passengers through Akwa Ibom Airport, in Uyo, thus bringing more first-time visitors and business travelers to the region. These efforts reflect our commitment to supporting local commerce and making a positive contribution to socio-economic growth in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria."

Based on this business development and partnership, it could accurately be asserted that Governor Udom Emmanuel has added feather to his cap as the governor of Akwa Ibom State. In the second year of his second tenure as the number one citizen in Akwa Ibom, has achieved something that Nigeria could not do as a country. He has successful set up a viable airline that is excellently operated. With the airline and other accomplishments, it could be rightly said that governor Udom has delivered on the promise that he made to the people of Akwa Ibom upon taking office in May 29, 2015, during his first tenure on tackling issues that are important to the people of Akwa Ibom and the overall well-being of Akwa Ibom state, now and well into the future.

Under Governor Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom State has achieved historic accomplishments that are of the utmost importance to Akwa Ibomians and will bring the state to the next level. In conjunction with Airbus and other business establishments, Akwa Ibom has been able to secure major successes for the economic development, travel safety, health care delivery and much more.

Akwa Ibom's future has never been brighter than it is today under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel. Ibom Air is an epoch-making development in the history of aviation in Nigeria. Governor Udom Emmanuel is a pace-setter and a governor per excellence.
