"The hope for humanity will start to evolve when we begin to see ourselves as human beings before we see ourselves as adherents of any group or religion." - Yahaya Balogun
hen the conscientized, savvy and prolific writer Ms Nnedinso Ogaziechi first wrote and celebrated Imam Abdullahi Abubakar last year August 8, 2018, after the menace of herdsmen killings in Nigeria, I knew Ms Nnedinso Ogaziechi was opening up national and international conversations to heal our nation. Imam Abdullahi Abubakar is a great catalyst to begin a unifying discourse in Nigeria.
This a great opportunity for President Muhammadu Buhari to use Imam Abudullahi Abubakar as a unifier to bring us together and heal our bleeding nation. Hersdmen, ISIS, Boko Haram etc. are groups of antisocial human beings. Because they're human beings with antisocial behavior, we can help to address their critical thinking errors; and promote their prosocial behavior to bring safety and peace to our beloved nation. President Buhari must be advised that job opportunities, good roads, good infrastructural amenities, portable water, food security and national development are recipes for reducing, if not eradicating poverty and insecurity from any nation.
Historically, if ISIS and Hitler can be defeated by the collective will and responsibility of the world, the insurgency of Boko Haram, kidnappings, killings and herdsmen's imbroglio can also be defeated in our nation. Professional letter writers too will be encouraged to promote unity and tranquility among all nation states. Human beings are good creatures if we know how to bring the best out of them.
The United States has just honoured Abdullahi Abubakar, the 83-year-old Muslim cleric who hid over 200 people, including Christians, during an attack in Plateau state last year-2018. It was an honor we saw coming and well-deserved. This message is an eye opener for men and women of goodwill to encourage the good ones amongst us. No human being has monopoly of hate or love! In fact, love is more potent than hate! Love conquers hate and bigotry everywhere. I have hope for humanity! People like Abubakar are impacting lives in a tremendous way to give hope to our state of hopelessness. Love is pristine in so many ways. Love blinds good people from seeing the hate and evils lurking around to destroy humanity! Love is an enabler of good conscience! Imam Abdullahi Abubakar is a true man of God!
The man of God-Abubakar among other four people from Sudan, Brazil, Iraq and Cyprus were honoured with the first-ever International Religious Freedom Award (IRFA). This is the kind of news that need to be carried out and amplified to encourage religious harmony and peace in Nigeria and the world. Every little thing counts! Little thing can precipitate and encourage good courses and directions. We must always recognize every little beginning!
It is heartwarming that Michael Pompeo, US secretary of state, presented the award and said this: “their heroic efforts to build bridges & protect vulnerable religious minorities, often at their own personal risk, are an inspiration to us all.” The US Secretary of state further posited: “I am especially honored tonight to share the stage with the men and women who have demonstrated how much each one of us is capable of in advancing this noble shared cause. If the future of religious freedom rests on solid ground, it’s because of people who are sharing the stage with me tonight." So refreshing!
To my surprise, this good news is viraling and birling positively in all media circles, including on naughty and discouraging social media. The comments and likes on the man of God are fascinating and encouraging. The hope for humanity will start to evolve when we begin to see ourselves as human beings before we see ourselves as adherents of any group or religion.
We must continue to de-emphasize hate and divisiveness and promote peace, amity and tranquility in all our geopolitics and the world. There's hope for humanity afterall! I am so excited that this good news from Nigeria is renewing our vigor and hope for a nation passing through one her defining moments in human history!
Congratulations to Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, and congratulations to the people of the Federal republic of Nigeria.
