"As a people, we are not very good students of history; we keep repeating the same mistakes at dreadful costs - Col Don Wilson

"Humankind doesn't have a genuine intellectual memory. They don't need the Truth. They don't want to know the Truth." - Robert Neil Fleischer, Alien Biography

he hand writing is on the wall. The line is drawn between the good and evil and of course the good is going to prevail. The election is right around the corner and Nigerians have made up their minds. The two most popular contenders are President Muhammadu Buhari and Mr. Atiku Abubakar. It must be noted that the name Atiku did not just come from nowhere, it is a name that vast majority of Nigerians are already familiar with. Mr. Atiku Abubakar's name resonated with the fact that he had been a key player in public offices in Nigeria especially from 1999 till date. He was the vice president of Nigeria under Olusegun Obasanjo who was president from 1999-2007. I want to make it abundantly clear, that I am not a politician and I do not belong to any political party in Nigeria, but as a citizen of Nigeria, I have a civic responsibility to register my opinion on the two candidates. My opinion is subjective and not imposition. Before Nigerians go out to cast their vote, they must understand the implication of the choice they are about to make.

As a vice president, records have shown that Mr. Atiku Abubakar was actively involved in the administration of his friend Olusegun Obasanjo. Nigerians must be aware that Mr. Atiku Abubakar was one of the founders and leaders of a political party that managed the affairs of the nation and plundered its resources for sixteen years.

A party that took the nation from a fairly stable ground and decimated its resources.

A party that put the nation on the map of international community as the most corrupt and impoverished nation in the world.

A party where the members looted public funds both at federal and state levels with reckless abandon. A party that introduced the worst economic downturn and subjected the entire populace to perjury.

A party that wasted the instrument of the state and created the most insecure environment unimaginable.

A party that created social-economic imbroglio that engineered a mass exodus of Nigerians to other nations because of poverty and disease. Nigerians must remember 16 years of wastage, destruction and mayhem PDP unleashed upon the nation of Nigeria with the supervision of Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo.

PDP is a pestilence upon Nigeria whose members are known for vulgarity and implicit desire for looting. This is the time for all Nigerians to be united with a resolve to extricate the nation from the hands of these political gamblers. Here was the statement made by Atiku recently, "I'm happy that they didn't say I will enrich myself, or the members of my family but my friends, are my friends not entitled to be enriched" - Atiku Abubakar. This is an indirect way of telling Nigerians that his primary goal of clamoring for presidency is to continue to loot and plunder the nation's resources through his friends. This is a man whose biography could not be completed without the mention of the damages he inflicted upon the nation for his part in looting public funds. According to a prominent American President, "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." - Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Mr. Atiku Abubakar wants to become president so as to continue to enrich his friends at the expense of already impoverished Nigerians with the endorsement of Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo. Nigerians must understand that Obasanjo is one of the major problems facing Nigeria. Obasanjo knows very well that president Buhari has good intensions for the nation of Nigeria and instead of helping him to realize that dream, he has become an opportunist politicking from one party to another to the detriment of Nigerians. He endorsed a man he had libeled as one of the most corrupt elements in the country for years. Obasanjo needs to hide himself from the face of Nigerian politics to allow peace and progress to reign in Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari is not perfect but he is a gentleman, a patriotic statesman and he deserves to be celebrated and appreciated by all well-meaning Nigerians. His moral etiquette, exemplary life, and leadership credibility stares across the four walls of the Nigerian state. He inherited a government that was ruined and destroyed by PDP for sixteen years. He has worked effortlessly to ignite that change he clamored for but unfortunately four years is not enough. He has recovered billions from members of PDP who admitted to have taken part in wrecking the nation. A leader under whose government, thieves and robbers have begun to return their loot to the nation must be applauded. Although his leadership is maligned by some members of the society, his high moral credibility cannot be over-emphasized.

President Buhari have had opportunity to enrich himself and compete on the list of Nigerian billionaires judging from his years of service in public offices, but he did not. He served the nation in different capacity and after which he retired to his home town of Daura without a luxury of life to show for it. Here was his statement when he was visited by the most renown God fearing pastor in Nigeria by the name pastor Kumuyi in Aso Rock in 2018. "With my experience as a governor, Minister of Petroleum, Head of State, Chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund, I thought I had seen it all, but Nigeria has a way of going at its own speed. "My morale is raised by your visit. I very much appreciate it.''- President Muhammadu Buhari. Pastor Kumuyi is a man of God I have always revered and respected for his consistency adhering to biblical injunctions. He has put aside his faith by recognizing president Buhari as a leader having good intentions to rebuild the nation.

President Buhari recently made a statement that in the event of anyone caught snatching ballot boxes during the electoral process, such perpetrators must be shot by law enforcement agents. I concur with the president, that the perpetrators must face firing squad. This is one step towards getting rid of criminal elements in the nation. This same punishment must be accorded to those public officials found guilty of plundering the nation's public funds.

The outcome of this election will determine the direction of the nation in the next four years. To all Nigerians, the balls are in your court. Goodluck!
