HOW COME NIGERIA IS SO RELIGIOUS AND THE GENERAL POPULACE IS SO OPPRESSED & POOR?

here are multiple reasons responsible for this state of affairs in NIGERIA. The fact that Nigeria is a Multi-religious country or secular state is part of the reasons. However, in this short article I'll focus on something that I believe that many have overlooked regarding Nigeria's perceived religious state.

Generally, Nigeria has a culture of monarchial religiosity which primarily has nothing to do with Christianity or even Islam.

Our monarchial African culture is inherently religious (it even sees our leaders as gods that cannot be questioned eg our Obas or kings are ALWAYS addressed as Kabiesi or Ka bi o ko si, meaning to question you there is none, Igwe for the Ibos, which literally means heaven or that which is the highest or obin'igwe meaning the one who dwells in the highest or heavenly place. Even the title Emir for the Hausas, has both religious and monarchial implications, as the Emir must be a descendant of the prophet Mohammed).

Sadly, we have used this mentality to adulterate proper or genuine Christianity.

Hence, even though, we have many that go to church, they have not embraced the virtuous tenets of true Christianity, which allows for growth, development, prosperity and advancement of the people. They have rather embraced monarchial african culture in the name of Christianity.

The days of factual developmental growth in Nigeria were undergirded by proper Christian principles of growth, development, prosperity and advancement.

The same can be said for Western nations like the UK and the US.

We need a proper relationship with God (Pure religion) not monarchial religiosity - Jn. 10:10; 1 Tim. 4:8-9.

Pure "religion" (Jam. 1:26-27) or true Christianity has always produced growth, prosperity and advancement in nations where it was embraced however monarchial religiosity, which is more prevalent in Nigeria, promotes regression, oppression and invariably poverty.

May the Lord help us to eventually overcome our current status quo of monarchial religiosity and embrace pure religion or true Christianity. Amen!
