must confess, I wasn't in the least displeased with the World cup draw for Nigeria. This doesn't mean, I have no respects for our opponents; far from it. I have the greatest respects for our opponents. It's just that, our group, gives us a fighting chance of qualifying for the knock out series. However, it's not a done deal; like I said, we have a fighting chance ! In other words, thanks goodness, we are not in the so called " group of death ."
This reality notwithstanding, the Super Eagles, need to prepare adequately for the World cup .Thanks goodness, this time around, we have at least a standing team, going into the world cup; even if it's a team, that in the words of Chief Segun Odegbami, " lacks cohesion ." Unlike, in 2010, when we were started building a team, three months to the world cup !
Apparently, the sports authorities have learnt their lessons, from the " South -Africa, 2010," misadventure. One reads with great measure of pleasure, the new developments, vis -a viz, our preparations for Brazil 2014: the pledged financial support from the Federal government; the free hand to be given the Coach, to not only select his team, but for the first time, to select the camping site for the team and of course the never- in- short supply goodwill and support from fellow Nigerians. Wow, it appears the omens are not only in favour of Nigeria's preparations for Brazil, but also are in favour of the Super Eagles, putting up a never -to -be-forgotten performance, in the mecca of soccer, the land of samba !
Talking about our group opponents: the Argentinians, to me are the clear favourites to top the group; however this is not a done deal; soccer can be full of surprises .This means the second place is where the real fight would be between - Nigeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is not underating Iran; meethinks, with all due respects to Iran, the Iranians don' belong to the same class ,as Nigeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Bosnians, are a decent side, play highly technically based, free flowing soccer with lustre and polish ! They can be dangerous to any side, any day. This is the reason, we need to prepare well, for the world cup. I am also pleased with the sequence of matches, to be played by Nigeria. We shall start the "engine ," against the Iranians; under normal circumstances, a not- too -warm Super Eagles "engine," should collect the three points, in our opening match. In the second match, the Bosnians, would face a hotter Super Eagles "machine,"; this would be necessary ,considering the expected rivalry for second place, the fire works, would start flying. By the time, we play the Argentinians, in our last match, the "engine ," would have achieved a decent measure of efficency, to cause harm, even to the Argentinians ! I am happy, Coach Keshi, would be given a free hand to select the players; and hopefully, they would camp, for sufficiently long period of time, to polish the necessary automatisms, in their movements and perfect their strategies and God willing, give us a never-to -be -forgotten world cup, in the land of samba. I have no doubt in my mind that all things being equal, this would be achievable, what with millions of Nigerians in Nigeria and the diaspora as well as our ancestors and their descendants from Brazil rooting for them !
This is our chance : GO SUPER EAGLES GO !!!! BRAZIL 2014, HERE WE COME !!!!
