Abdulsalaam Abuabakar Lecture Series inagurated

At long last the Abdulsalaam Abubakar lecture series was inagurated at Chicago State University yesterday. I was there and met Laolu Akande for the first time. Laolu is still in Chicago, and will be giving a detail brief later.

IBB, Buhari and Shonekan were not there. Abubakar was there in the company of the following: his wife, Chief Abraham Adesanya of Afenifere, Chief Segun Osoba (Ogun State Governor), Ayo Opadokun, John Nnia Nwodo, Shehu Malami, Emir of Minna, Alhaji Zango Daura (immediate past Minister of Environment) and about 200 delegates from Nigeria.

There was demonstration outside the Lecture auditorium by a few Nigerians. A sad day for Nigeria. Inspite of all the noise by Nigerians, only the Maryland group turned out in full force, along with Missouri, Michigan and New York. Even Chicago showed visible absence.

While I will defer to Laolu Akande to give the real picture, the sad story is the presence of the Leader of the Yorubas in the entourage. A shame indeed. Abubakar was served the US District court summons originating in Michigan in the hall, that is the only good thing achieved by some Nigerians in the US.
