his parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer's well.
The farmer heard the mule braying or whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors together, told them what had happened and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.
Initially the old mule was hysterical! But as the father and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back, HE SHOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP
This he did, blow after blow. "Shake it off and step up…shake it off and step up…shake it off and step up!" He repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows, or how distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought panic and just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!
It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well! What had been intended to bury him actually helped him all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.
Dear reader, don't lay passive in that unpleasant situation, SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP. When the 'world' throws dirt at your back with the intention to bury you in that well of despondency, shake it off and use that as a springboard to get to your next level. You may get battered and exhausted sometimes but don't take the 'final breathe' yet, for you are almost there, and triumphantly, you will step over the 'wall of that well.' I prophecy to you today, that well will not be your graveyard! Rather, the Lord will turn it into your Praise-Ville. You might have been knocked down but you are not buried yet. GET UP! For the glory ahead is much more than the 'thousand stripes' you have received. Who says it's impossible? Who says it cannot be done? Who says you cannot become whom God wants you to be? Impossibility is not part of the vocabulary in the dictionary of our God. He is the all knowing, all powerful one. Has He said it, will He not bring it to pass? His promises are true. Men may promise you and fail but our "God is not a man that would lie…" He is not the son of man that would rescind on His promises. You may say to yourself, 'I have prayed and waited all these years but I have not received my answers yet.' Listen dear friends, those delays will turn out for your good. You have not received it yet because it's not God's time yet. When the fullness of time comes, no man can stop it. They may try to 'bury' you like they did to the mule but in the midst of your adversity the Lord will bring forth your advancement. It is time to step up. Don't bury your head in shame and defeat any longer. It is time to Step Up. God bless.
