"And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6: 35 - 40).
an is spiritually hungry today because he has refused to come to Jesus, the bread of life; which nourishes and transforms lives. Man is deformed by sin; and the power of sin has made man to live below God's acceptable standard. All provisions for human transformation are made available through Christ. Truly, Jesus is the one sent from God for man's redemption (John 6: 40a, Matthew 1: 21). He is "the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14: 6). Without Christ, there is no salvation. There is no freedom, peace, joy, progress and eternal life without him.
For live transformation, there are two provisions made available in our text, particularly John chapter six (6) verse forty (40):
"And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."
The first condition is the need to see Jesus. Verse 40b, says, "That every one which seeth the Son." The beginning of transformation is in seeing the Son of God. Personal revelation of Jesus as the Son of God is the springboard for life changing encounter. You must encounter the Son. Seeing and hearing from the Son determines your life changing encounter with God. You may not see the Lord with physical eyes, but you must see Him spiritually with eyes of faith. In Revelation 3: 20, Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me".
The second condition or requirement for a life transformation is the need to believe and receive the Son into your life. Verse 40c, says, "and believeth on him, may have everlasting life:" Man must believe in the son of God. To believe the Son means to accept Jesus Christ as the personal Lord and Savoiur of your soul. When we accept Jesus Christ, he comes into our lives and empowers us to live for him. He enables us to live victorious and glorious Christian life.
Based on our theme and text, the main issues or lessons in this message are divided into three points.
First and foremost, we have to realise that we are dead in sin, and thereby are deformed by sinful nature.
What caused man's deadness in sin or spiritual deformation is sin. Sin entered into the heart of man and caused his fall. It is very unfortunate that man came short of the glory of God because of his disobedience. Devil deceived man and man yielded to the temptations of the devil. By this, he disobeyed God and lost out with Him. He lost that beautiful and perfect relationship with God. Disobedience brought about the loss of God's glory and the beginning of deformity in man.
Truly, man became deformed by sin. All the imaginations of man's heart became evil and wickedness. Man could no longer live above sin. He is now a slave of sin. The Devil now controls the affairs of man. That is why the thought, words and activities of man are very sinful and abominable. The sinful nature is a deformed nature. It needs divine transformation in Christ.
Secondly, we must accept that we cannot save or transform ourselves.
Man could no longer help himself, because he is spiritually blind, lame, deaf and dumb. He could not see, hear, talk and walk. All human efforts to help himself out of the state of human depravity and deformity became futility and fruitless.
We must realise that self-righteousness could not save or transform man. All self-discipline, morality and other human effort or religious activities could not help. No ritual or sacrifice of any worth would be able to redeem and transform man from slavery of sin. Up till now, man have not realised that he could not save himself. He cannot because he is spiritually blind and held in spiritual bondage by sin. It is very unfortunate that man has been going the wrong way to save and transform himself.
Thirdly, we must come to realisation that Jesus is the power that transforms our lives.
We receive life transformation or redemption through Jesus Christ. The power that can transform lives is the power of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the transforming power. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1: 9). The power in the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from all sin and sinfulness. The power in the blood of Jesus sanctifies any soul that comes to Him. The power in the blood of Jesus purifies our hearts from all evil and wickedness. The power in the blood of Jesus cancels all spiritual debts owed by man.
The power in the name of Jesus heals and cast out every demons, fears, pains and captivity. "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4: 12). The name that brings transformation is the most powerful and precious name of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The power of God brings life and light to the dying soul. The power in the word of God brings transformation to the human hearts. Outside Christ there is nothing like life changing encounter or life transformation.
New life begins in Christ. In Satan we are deformed, but in Christ we are transformed. Light and darkness cannot have anything in common. There is no transformation in darkness. The works of the flesh fully manifest in darkness.
The power of Christ is the power of forgiveness. The power that can turn around the life of an armed robber, a womanizer, a gay, a traitor, a heartless and stubborn person is the power of Christ. Eternal or everlasting life in Christ changes everything in a man.
You cannot live life to the fullest without Christ. You cannot be free from sin without Christ. You cannot think, speak and walk in righteousness without the transforming power of Christ. The power of God is the power of Christ. This power liberates, protects, and provides every transforming experience for the good of every man who comes to Jesus. Our lives could only be said to be transformed when Christ has worked in us. Our lives cannot be good without transformation experience through Christ.
If you would like to begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ today, please pray this prayer:
"Lord Jesus, I invite you into my life. I believe you died for me and that your blood pays for my sins and provides me with the gift of eternal life, by faith I receive that gift and I acknowledge You as my Lord and Savoiur. Amen".
May the Lord bless and transform your lives so that you could become useful vessels unto Him through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
