"For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe" (1 Thessalonians 2: 13)

od's Word, the Holy Bible is the only sure guide for living a pure life. Unless the Holy Spirit communicates God's message to us, we are merely hearing or reading words. Words do not transform lives, but God's Word, illuminated by the Holy Spirit, is the power for salvation. The Word of God, therefore, does not lead us to God; it is in itself our encounter with the living Lord. The Word of God is powerful and effective to transform lives, if it is received. We must not only listen to the Word; we must also let it shape our lives.

The Word of God shapes our lives, it helps us stay pure and grow in faith. The effect of the Word of God is so great in the lives of those who receive it. The Word of God is living, life-changing, and dynamic as it works in the lives of men. It is like a surgical knife - very useful and necessary for operations.

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" (Hebrews 4: 12). "And take...the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6: 17).

Sword of Spirit is the Word of God. A sword cuts, divide. A sword separates. And when the word of God like a sword, falls on people gathered in churches or assembles anywhere, it divides them into two classes - the saved and the unsaved, the believers and unbelievers. God's word is an arrow that never misses its mark. It penetrates the core of our moral and spiritual life. It discerns what is within the heart of man, both good and evil. God's word reveals who we are and what we are not. Nothing can be hidden from God's word. The Holy Bible is full of real and living power. Its words are transforming lives all over the world every day. Read it. All who do so, truly seeking to learn, will be touched by its power. They will never be the same.

God's words are not mere sermons or documents but a real source of transforming power. As the physical food you eat is to your body, so is the spiritual food you take to your spiritual life. You are not living or growing if you are not hearing from God (Luke 4:4). You cannot grow higher or taller than the word of God you have in you. Lack of the word of God makes man starve to death (Luke 4:4). Keeping God's Word in our hearts is a deterrent to sin. However, memorization alone will not keep us from sin, we must also put God's Word to work in our lives, making it a vital guide for everything we do. We can find peace, strength and direction by reading, meditating and hearing God's Word and doing what it says.

The word of God is a compass. It is very important for strangers in this earth (Psalm 119: 19, 105). The Word of God can be our light to show us the way ahead so we will not stumble as we walk. Study the Word of God so you will be able to see your way clear enough to stay on the right path. Allow God's Word to permeate your life. To resist it is to refuse God Himself. Accept it and place your life under God's mighty hand to be shaped according to His divine will.
