hen you purchased a new gizmo, you look at its manual for access. When you buy a new car, you ask for the Owner's Manual and whatever you own and needs to be operated all come with directions and manuals from their manufacturers. But when it comes to how to live right, why do we think we can run our lives without asking the Owner of Life; the Lord God Almighty on how to live right. As stated elsewhere in another piece, there is no institution in the world where human beings are taught how to live, but are taught only how to earn a living. Even in our churches these days, attendees are being programmed more and more to conform to the world instead of being the salt of the world. In our colleges and universities, our youth are being taught only how to earn a living and no wonder there are ruined lives scattered all over the world.
The Manual of Life is the Holy Bible. To rely on your own understanding or the counsel of others when you are clueless on what the Owner of Life says and wants about an issue is to live a miserable life. The fact of the matter is that, there is no reliable word or advice out there that one can convincingly bank on except what the Lord God Almighty has said on that particular issue in His unchangeable Word; the Holy Bible. As the Teacher admonishes in Proverbs 3:5-8: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones." There is a dominant theme in many of the email that I receive weekly from readers of this column and it is; how does the True Lord God Almighty speak to human beings? I shudder about this question, even from Christians who are supposed to know and understand. The fact of the matter is that, the True Lord God Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, speak to every human soul on this planet earth, believers and unbelievers alike. In addition to the ecosystem and vegetation, the beauty of the cosmos and nature which bear eloquent and unmistakable testimonies of His Majesty, the Voice of God Almighty echoes into the ears of every human being in this universe; Christians, non-Christians, evil doers, Atheists etc. Hear what the Holy Spirit said through Elihu in Job 33: 12-22: "But I tell you; in this you are not right, for God is greater than any mortal.
Why do you complain to him that he responds to no one's words? For God does speak-now one way, now another- though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride; to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword "Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in their bones, so that their body finds food repulsive and their soul loathes the choicest meal. Their flesh wastes away to nothing, and their bones, once hidden, now stick out. They draw near to the pit and their life to the messengers of death…"
If you can unpack those nine verses, then you who is sick now in in hospital, afflicted with cancer and ravaged by any disease, you who is now in prison or incarcerated, about to be executed, you who is embarking on a journey right now and an accident will take place or you who will die this year when it is not yet your time or anyone who is in an unpleasant condition or situation right now or you who is currently mad at God for not giving you your own husband or wife, unemployed or generally unhappy about the direction of your life, the Lord God Almighty has spoken and is still speaking to you before you got to this stage of your life but "…though no one perceives it"(Job 33: 14). But you may ask; how has the Lord God Almighty been speaking to me? Here are the four ways he's been speaking to you all along: "In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears..." (Job 33-15/16) But these four ways have now increased to seven ways in the New Testament through which the Lord God Almighty speaks to human beings. Job lived in the Old Testament Era but thank God Almighty that He came personally in human form in our Lord Jesus Christ to save us from the pernicious and choke full stronghold of Satan, Hallelujah! In addition to dreams, visions, warnings and ears, God now speaks to us through the Holy Bible, the Holy Spirit and directly one-on-one as He promised in Joel 2: 28: "And afterward, - (that is in the Last Days)-I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions." The Lord God fulfilled this promise on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2: 17. If you are a genuinely-born-again Christian and you're finding it difficult to hear from your Heavenly Father, then something is wrong. It is not rocket science; God speaks and talks to us every day. Search the Holy Bible for what He has said about a particular issue troubling you or your current situation, because no matter the issue under heaven, God has said and made known His take on that particular issue. Consequently, the first question you should ask when you want to hear from the Lord God Almighty is; what has God said about this matter or issue? This was what motivated my co-author and I to write the book: "The Kingdom of Satan Exposed" as directed by the Holy Spirit so we can know how the Kingdom of Darkness operates and how to hear from God in exposing the fiendish works of Satan and his malevolent minions.
Before the fall of Adam and Eve, there was One Voice on earth; the True Lone Voice of the True Lord God Almighty. Adam and Eve didn't know or hear any contrary voice and so they formed perfect unity with their Maker. When God said Yes, Adam and Eve agreed with Him. Anything that God said or uttered to our First Parents was the Truth and the Gospel Truth. The baseline for knowing what is true came directly from God, because candidly, anything contrary to what God has said cannot be guaranteed to be true. Just like I will rely on the Manufacturers Owner's Manual to operate a car, an electronic product and think twice on any contrary advice so also was the disposition of Adam and Eve. But one day, a contrary voice to the Voice of the Lord spoke to them in the Garden of Eden. "You shall surely not die," (Genesis 3: 4) said the serpent (Satan) to the Truth, the Voice of God which had hitherto said in Genesis 2: 17: "You shall surely die." The two voices were contrary then and they still are opposites today. When the Lord God Almighty says; "Yes," anyone with the Spirit of God should know it is indeed "Yes." But know this; Satan will never say "Yes" to anything or issue that the Almighty God has said: "Yes" to and instead will say: "No." Throughout human history and to date, these two contrary and opposite voices permeate all issues and views on earth. Consequently, the second question you must answer if you want to know the view of God on any issue and His Voice on your life is: What is the voice of Satan? Since the fall of our First Parents in the Garden of Eden, these two diametrically-opposed voices have been reigning on earth on all issues and in the hearts of all human beings. It was not so in the beginning of Creation until Adam and Eve listened to Satan in Genesis 3 and ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Does that mean these two divergent views and voices on earth turn human beings into neutrals and spiritual autarky? No.
Every human being on earth that has been born or will ever be born will make a choice on which of the two-diametrically opposed views and voices to believe. There is no sitting on the fence. No one will be able to maintain a non-aligned position. After knowing the view of God on a particular matter and Satan too has made his own view known, the final decision on which of the two voices to believe or disbelieve rest squarely on your shoulders. No one will make the call for you. The next question therefore which you must answer is: What am I saying to what God Almighty has said?
When God has made His Voice known loud and clear on any issue, you must respond to His Voice. In the matter of eternity for instance, Jesus Christ said in John 14: 6: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." That is a line in the sand. It is straight-forward, unambiguous and clearly off-pat. You can't spin those words. It is either you agree that Yes, Jesus Christ is truly the Way, the Truth and the Life, period! Or alternatively, you disagree and said No, Jesus Christ is not the Only Way, the Only Truth and the only Life, period! You can agree with Satan that there are other ways, life and truths outside Jesus Christ. Your answer will indeed determine where you'll spend eternity. This is not rocket science folks. It is just common sense. Again, in John 3: 16-18, Jesus Christ told Nicodemus thus: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." Here again, we are presented with two contrary and diametrically-opposed views and voices. One says that Jesus has come to save the world and those who believed in Him will not be judged and will have eternal life. The second view or contrary voice to the first says; those who do not believe in the first view or voice stand condemned already because "…they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." Now that you and I and all human beings have been presented with these two contrary views and voices, the ball is now in your court, my court and the courts of every human soul on planet earth. Which do you believe? What is your take on these two contrary views? What is your decision? That is you third question?
The fourth question is: what are people saying to what God has said? As I pointed out in this column last week, the world seems to be ruled by data and statistics and the more an issue is supported by the majority, the more its acceptability. Satan and his demons have dubiously taught human beings in the Information Age that virtues, morals and God's views do no matter in human affairs, but the views of the majority should have the upper hand. But the Truth can only be defined by the One who made the universe and us. The sun doesn't need majority approval from human beings to rise and set every day. The rain, snow, thunder, lightning, hurricane etc. do not ask human beings to conduct polls and send the results to them before they strike. Consequently, the Sovereign Lord God of the heavens and universe has, will, and shall never govern and maintain His Sovereignty based on human polling. Hear the Might One in Isaiah 45: 5-6: "I am the Lord, and there is no other. Besides Me there is no God….That men (the entire human race) may know from the rising to the setting of the sun That there is no one besides Me. I am the LORD, and there is no other…" The majority has always been gullible and rabble-rousing. Leaf through human history; you will discover some of the most violent and brutal dictators on planet earth were ushered into power by majorities of their citizens with cheers, applause and glee only for such tyrants to turn round and inflict misery and pains on the people.
The fifth question you must consider when you want to know what is of God or not is; what am I saying to Satan's voice? Make no mistake about it; Satan and his demons speak to us too just as the Lord God Almighty speaks to us. That spiritual fact has been established above and we would have done more with copious examples from both secular and spiritual lives but for space constraints. Satan and his demons speak to us through our minds, hearts, situations and circumstances. Just as the Almighty God speaks to us in seven distinct ways, Satan also speaks to us-every human being whether born-again Christians or not-through six ways: mind, heart, situations, conditions and circumstances, through other human beings and through religion. What you say to what Satan says about you, your situation, conditions and circumstances, through fellow human beings and religious dogmas are important. Your responses determine how long you will overcome in that area of your life that you're looking for victory. Take the most pivotal issue of eternity for instance. Satan will tell you in your heart and mind for examples that, you aren't all that a bad person compared with the "armed robbers, rapists, murderers etc. for examples and you don't need Jesus as long as you're good, you'll make it to heaven. He will push the envelope further by brining friends and acquaintances to you who will say the same. Then Satan and his demons will create situations and circumstances to validate their views and you begin to think that; how can over 2 billion non-Christians who do not believe in Jesus Christ go to hell? In your thinking, you begin to side with Satan and his demons too when you hear the teachings of most religions of the world; Can all these religionists be wrong? Who would even go to this paradise considering the number of born-again Christians in the world today? Yet, if you have invested time and energy in the Words of God, you would have known that the Lord God Almighty has already made His views and Voice known. He is not the God of majority. He is not the God of the highest numbers and the majority and He doesn't rule by polls. As Apostle Paul said in Romans 3: 4: "Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge."
The sixth question is for you as a born-again Christian to ask the Holy Spirit what He has said to all that Satan and the people have said? When God speaks or has spoken on a matter, He delights Himself in repeating it over and over again like a loving, responsible and responsive parent who desires his/her children will not fall into error. Hear what He told the children of Israel through Joshua in Joshua 1: 7-9: "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Throughout the Old Testament, the Lord God Almighty being the Loving and Caring Father He is was always warning His people to live straight, forsake evil and steer clear of Satan and his demons. The most prominent word He used most often was the word: "Remember." The whole of the Book of Deuteronomy was a summary of all that the Lord God wanted from His people and His constant uses of words such as: Listen," "Hear," "Obey" etc. could not be clearer. God loves us, He loves you and He loves us and that is why He cares for us so we will spend eternity with Him in heaven. He doesn't want us to spend eternity with Satan and his demons in hell. Trust me; hell is not a good place. It is not a place you and me should wish our greatest enemy should spend eternity. Even Satan and his demons are afraid to spend eternity in hell but they have no choice. Hell is their eternal abode. This love of God Almighty for you and me motivated Him to come personally in bodily form down to this earth in our Lord Jesus Christ to die for us so that we can be declared righteous before a Holy God. This concern for our souls-your soul and my soul-constantly weighed on the Mind of Christ and you hear Him loud and clear in the New Testament say almost repeatedly: "He who has ears to hear let him/her hear." Unlike in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit is God reigning in our hearts today as redeemed children of the Most High and He is the One who stands as witness to what is contained in the Holy Bible as the Truth of God's Words.
Finally and lastly, the last question you must answer in order to appropriate what is of God or Satan, separate the voice of the rabble from that of God, tear-apart the Truth from Falsehood, distinguish the Voice of God from that of Satan and his demons, establish what endures and what is temporary is: what am I saying to what Satan and other people have said to what God and the Holy Spirit have said? Your opinion is irrelevant and immaterial in matters of the Spirit but your belief is what matters. What you say to what God has said, what Satan has said, what other people have said, and finally what the Holy Spirit has said will determine your current condition, situations and circumstances and finally, your eternal destination.
LETTER OF THE WEEK:
Dear Dr. Fayemiwo, I talked to you before on the phone but here I am again writing you. First and foremost, good morning to you and your family. May the LORD continue to bless you and your work in Jesus Name. I read your article online last week titled: "VOX POPULI: The voice of the people and the supreme voice of the True Lord God Almighty." Now, my question is in reference to the popular saying as you stated in your article about how they say "the voice of the people is the voice of God." You said never in human history has the voice of the people represented the voice of God and that anytime the majority speaks, they are mostly and likely influenced by the devil himself. Ironically shortly after reading this article, I was reading my daily Bible and in 1 Samuel 8:6, it says the people requested for a king to rule over them just like other nations have kings and Samuel prayed to the Lord and after praying, God told him to listen to the people and obey their voice in all that they say. How would you explain this in a more knowledgeable way? ----Mr. Oluwaseun Akinrolabu, United States Army, Missouri, USA.
Dear Mr. Akinrolabu,
Thanks for your letter. But you didn't quote all the remaining verses in that chapter 8. Read what the Lord God Almighty said after the people asked for a king in 1 Samuel 8: 7-9: " And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights." It wasn't the demand of the people for a king that was the sin committed, but the reasons they gave for asking for a king: "to be like other nations and have kings who would go to battles for Israel." Those were the opposites of the reasons why God chose them in the first place: not be like other nations. The Israelites were to be a treasured people who would live the way the True Lord God Almighty wanted all human beings to live on earth so that all other nations on earth would be drawn to them and copy them. God told them this in Leviticus 18: 3: "You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices."
The Israelites were supposed to be a nation of priests even though the Lord God owned all the earth and created all human beings, including the Egyptians He destroyed in the Red Sea, the fall of Adam and Eve introduced sin into a hitherto sinless world. But out of this chaos, the Lord God Almighty had to prepare a nation through which He would come physically to this earth to redeem or "buy us back" from Satan through shedding His Blood-the Blood of Jesus Christ-in order to satisfy the righteous requirement of a Holy God who said; there won't be forgiveness of sins until blood is shed. The Lord God Almighty said as much in Exodus 19: 4-6: "'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites." The sin that the majority of the people committed in that 1 Samuel 8 by requesting for a king was the two motives for asking for a king namely: to be like the other nations around them, and to have a king who would fight their battles. God didn't bring them out of Egypt to be like the other nations. God was already fighting their battles for them without any king.
You see, it is not the prayer we pray or supplication we make to God that earns us eternal rewards but the motives behind the things we do for God, because as Proverbs 16: 2 aptly says: "All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD." No matter how benevolent a spiritual act, if it is not done with the right motivation and pure heart, we human beings may be praising and eulogizing such acts, but in the eyes of the Lord, it has no eternal reward ( Proverbs 21: 2). As I have pointed out in this column in previous articles, any spiritual act that is not directed and inspired by the Holy Spirit is of zero-utility before the Eternal Throne of the Lord God Almighty and that is why our Lord Jesus Christ said in Mathew 7: 21-23: "Many will say to me on that day,' Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' But why would our Lord Jesus Christ drive these people out of His Presence on the Day of Judgment? After all, they did worthy things; opening the eyes of the blind, driving out demons and even prophesying in Jesus Name. These were the signs Jesus Christ said would follow those who believe in Him (Mark 16: 17 & 19) so why would these people not make it into paradise? Jesus Christ Himself provided the reason in the same Mathew 7 in a verse preceding verses 21 -23 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Here is what our Lord Jesus Christ is saying, Yes, you want to serve Me and do all that I commanded but only in your own way. There is a difference between obeying and obeying the way you think it's appropriate. That is religion. Religious people are very, very religious and really want to serve God but only on their own terms, period! That is equal to disobedience or half-obedience which is also another name for disobedience. Remember Saul? Unfortunately, some Christians do the same thing today and those are the people our Lord Jesus Christ was referring to here. You are a pastor with large congregation, you can prophesy and drive out demons, cure diseases and perform miracles and all that, but the question our Lord Jesus Christ will ask you on the Day is simple: Did I call you to be a pastor? These guys would then reply: But we prophesied in Your Name? We opened the eyes of the blind bla!, bla!!, bla!!! Then Jesus Christ would answer them: Didn't I tell you in Mathew 7: 21: "…only he who does the will of the Father shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven, period! Before you do anything for the Lord, ask Him, Is this Your Will for me?
