he kindergarten king chose to leave his house burning to attend his district's neighborhood watch meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, having earlier taken a plane-load of sidekicks, errand boys, co-travelers in his lootership and cheerleaders-in-thief to New York to squander whatever was left in the treasury at the United Nations - even as states were not paid their monthly allocation from the federation account due to insufficient funds! The fire has persisted and flames are bellowing from both ends of his house. Doctors have since joined university teachers in boycotting work. Medical services are not available to citizens and yet it is business as usual in Abuja and the junketing continues. You all must remember that we'll take the full advantage and benefit of this world first before going on to enjoy heaven, so the attitude on display. A hugely inadequate, poorly equipped healthcare system is now gradually grinding to a halt, and that is fine with Aso Rock. You and I do not expect this to bother the kindergarten king who sit - at least for now - in Aso Rock because German hospitals provide wonderful health care for his family. But then there was the insult that the wife of Goodluck Jonathan, the Wife of Bath (a la Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales), added to the grave injury the nation is suffering when she went on pilgrimage to South Korea to collect an honourary degree from Hansei University, a college that is ranked four thousand, two hundred and eighty-one (4281) among world universities and colleges in 2011, but Hansei University is ranked 954 places behind the highest ranked Nigerian university, the University of Benin (at 3327). Hansei is also ranked 37 places behind the University of Ibadan at 4244.
Patience Jonathan is undeserving of any award, particularly an award from any institution of higher learning. The honourary she won't get from top universities in Nigeria she decided to procure from a low-ranked institution in South Korea. How much did she donate to Hansei? What did she pay as award confirmation registration, certification, verification and presentation fees? Clearly, the pilgrimage of the Wife of Bath is another testimony to the pointless, wasteful, reckless and selfish ways of the kindergarten king and his family. Going overseas to receive an honourary degree just shows the desperation of Patience Jonathan to be counted and regarded, but you do not get counted or shown any regard if you do not merit it. The views of most Nigerians of this woman are 99% negative; she is seen as rude, crude, arrogant, a limelight-seeker, and a very selfish and richly deluded person. She was described as "a humanitarian who has dedicated her life to working for the less privileged in Nigeria and Africa especially for women and children"! Is there any other Nigeria beside the current geographical space where millions of people have nothing and the Jonathans are eating with a billion naira every year? Which women and children are the uninformed Hansei people referring to? Are we talking about the millions of jobless, hopeless, hungry Nigerian women who cannot feed their families and who cannot use hospitals even as she was receiving the cheap award in South Korea? Or is it the millions of Nigerian children who have no access to basic health care, ravaged by a high infant mortality and curable diseases even as she and her family squander billions naira on overseas trips and live large in Aso Rock?
The management of Hansei University did not do their homework and merely judged this character by her outward, pretentious, holier-than-thou mien. According to the UNICEF Country Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Jean Gough Nigeria has failed to make significant progress in checking the rising mortality rate of children under five years of age. Ms. Gough pleaded for immediate action and pointed out that 20 percent of child deaths in sub-Saharan Africa occur in Nigeria as under-five mortality rate in Nigeria has increased from 138 per 1,000 live births in 2007 to 158 per 1,000 live births in 2011! Shall we also mention the tens thousands of university students who have been locked out of classes for nearly three months while she picks up another medal made of dust and ashes in South Korea? And where was the self-righteous and pseudo-pious Patience Jonathan, the Wife of Bath when these infants were dying? Oh, that must have been when she was away in Germany for treatment or for another post-operation check up that August 2013 when Ms. Gough made this plea. Hansei also mentioned that Patience Jonathan was dedicated to prayer! Oh my, just because she "travelled here (South Korea) for the Church Growth International conference years back to pray for Nigeria"! Patience Jonathan traveled all the way to South Korea to pray for Nigeria? The grotesque, the laughable and the sordid will never end for as long as the likes of the Wife of Bath live among us. This was nothing more than a prayer show, like power show, and this avails her the opportunity to be seen and noticed - as pious and holy. You are left to wonder about the truth of the citation read at Hansei University for this Wife of Bath. Chaucer would have made her the subject of a novel if he was alive today, probably and fittingly called The Lord Wife of Aso Rock. A very religious woman who embarked on the pilgrimages for the wrong reasons; the trips were for her an opportunity to see every where possible as a tourist who likes to sight see and enjoy life. Like the Wife of Bath, Patience Jonathan hates to be controlled or told what to do though she knows very little and she is far from being polished, but she is strong-willed and always want to dominate; she must always get what she wants.
The thirst for power oozes from her being and everyone must bow before her not-so-majestic presence, even her husband. She wants him to bow to her and she subtly enslaves him. She wants the governors to call her mummy but they already have their mothers and cared little about her, which is why she hates them and reserve her bile for Rotimi Amaechi. She is at war with the nation and the people because they refused to bow before her. The thirst for power was behind her push for a budget for the office of the first lady and the recent budget allocation of the sum of N4 billion to her wonder project in Abuja. She wants a befitting office as first lady, she craves titles, and she wants to be seen to be important and in control, but everyone knows that the Wife of Bath is not in control, she cannot be in control, and she is not fit, has not been trained, and does not possess what it takes to be in control or to control anyone. She got a post in Bayelsa State for a job she cannot do and not qualified to do, and she is not doing though getting paid. Like the Wife of Bath, she is mad with anyone who refuses to accept her supremacy and, worse still, who scorns her. It pains her deeply and hurts her to the bones that Nigerians are not crawling before her and asking for favour from her. Patience Jonathan does not care about changing the nation for the benefit of other women for as long as her own selfish needs and goals are met, a trait she shares with Chaucer's Wife of Bath. Her claim to being religious has nothing to do with God as her delight are only in the show of it all.
Attention for attention sake is her thing and Patience (who dashed her Dame? Dame Margaret Thatcher we know, Dame Fasola we know, and the other Dames who are women of substance are well known) will die if she cannot get the attention she craves. All the peace mission, women's programs and traffic-stopping trips restricted to the South are just to grab national attention, which is why she hates the reports in the newspapers about how pointless and hopeless her trips have mostly turned out to be. She condemns everybody and regard them as "bad," while hiding her own hideous and despicable character, but her place of prominence is assured in the "book of wicked wives." For Patience Jonathan to think so highly of herself despite her hollowness beats me, but it is all down to the fact that she exert so much power and influence over Goodluck (not so lucky in this regard) Jonathan. Chaucer's categorization of women were either as saints or sinners. You decide which of the two is Patience Jonathan.
