THE BOY WHO SAW LEGISLOOTERS AT WAR

did not realize you are back from work"

"I returned just now."

"How was work today?"

"The work is there. It never ends, you see, but today the day went very quickly."

"What happened?"

"We all read the interview with the boy who witnessed the wrestling bouts at the National Wrestling House in Abuja. That was the story today was devoted to in our office."

"That boy October Independence, he just said it the way he saw it."

"He was a very funny boy. He said the legislooters are area boys."

"He also called them dishonourable members. I just cannot hold back my laughter. Our staff bus was full of laughter today as we ride to work and even as we ride back home."

"The boy said they went to the house to observe firsthand what they've read in their subjects, Government and Social Studies and what they say, the fighting, wrestling and kicking were not in their books. I just can't stop laughing."

"He said his dad told him he must return to write an essay about his experience at the House of Looters, but now he could not write about what he saw. What he saw was just too shameful and disgraceful."

"He saw legislooters at work, at their best and at one another's throat."

"He 'What essay? What will I write? Will I write that I visited the National Assembly and saw honourable members of the House of Representative wrestling or fighting? What essay?"

"He said the entire chambers were in an uproar". (Laughter and cackles)

"Tears were rolling down my eyes as one staff read the story out loud to us in the staff bus."

"He said he and his classmates saw honourable members running helter-skelter and carrying objects which they used on one another."

"Yeah, the dishonourable members were fighting over filthy lucre and the loot of state."

"The dishonourable members were angry at one another for not sharing the loot fairly. Fairness is good for members but bad for the people."

"Don't forget what he said about the man with shredded agbada. He said the man was the leader of the progressives. How progressive that group is?"

"How useless the leadership of the House of Looters."

"The Chief Looter has gone to the school to apologize to the students."

"An apology for the show of shame is not enough. If the boy knows what is good for him and for decency, he should just resign and go away."

"He should show a good example and do what is honourable: he should resign now before he is thrown out."

"A 16 year old has summed up his performance as dishonourable."

"The boy Independence said his classmates kept shouting 'Hulk Hogan, Hulk Hogan'."

"If the image our children took away from the House of Looters is that of legislooters as World Wrestling Federation (WWF) sluggers, then we should put lock and keys to that house."

"The House is costing the people billions every year and I do not think they need to shell out billions to see a street fight."

"This was roof-rofo fight. I know Fela Anikulapo Kuti will be very proud of the legis-wrestlers."

"Fela will take his band and legions of wives to the house to show them true African Arrangement."

"I know Fela will invite Independence to his Kalakuta Republic to retool him and educate him on proper African System of Governance."

"Fela will likely call on Ogun and Sango to put a curse on the legislooters."

"The boy said his classmates kept referring to one legislooter as Ogbologbo, the one who was said to be very strong and who needed five dishonourable members to restrain."

"That one must be Akilapa with a thick neck."

"He said some of his classmates were shouting 'Dino, the bulldog, Dino, the bulldog, and that he wondered whether the legislooter being hailed as Dino, the bulldog was a member of the house."

"I don't blame the boy. He rightly assumed that anyone that belligerent and rough and roguish should be in the wrestling ring."

"I think no one in that House of Looters that day has the right to still be there."

"They have all lost their honour and so irresponsible and hopeless they should not wait to be shown the door."

"I am sure you know how they are. They think Nigerians will forget with time and the looting and stealing can continue."

How can things return to normal after they brought so much humiliation to themselves, their constituencies and the Nigerian people? Even the boy Independence is now so unhappy about the whole affair he wants his father to find him a university overseas."

"The boy said he is more than disappointed; he is disillusioned."

"Let me read it to you here: 'I am disillusioned. I am ashamed of being a Nigerian. I hope you are aware that this 'show of shame' took place same day that the Super Eagles embarrassed the nation in South Africa. I am sad that the children of these lawmakers are not in the country to witness what their fathers have turned this country to. My mother told me that most of the children of the parliamentarians are (in) places like Ghana, US, Britain, Saudi Arabia schooling'."

"He is just 16 years old but he knows that nothing good can ever come out of that House of wrestlers and looters."

"He said he would never go near the House again."

"He called the dishonourable members 'a disgrace to their children, family, and the nation.'"

"Let me read the rest of that out loud: 'This has clearly shown that our leaders are incapable of running this country. They did this in our presence. As leaders of tomorrow to be, what example are they bequeathing to us? If I knew that this was going to happen, I would have opted out of this trip.'"

"What more can I say?"

"I think the leadership of the House should resign today."

"They won't resign; you know they have no shame."

"How about the sixty legislooters who were away in South Africa to watch the World Cup?"

"They went to waste the nation's money and to have fun at our expense. Most of these people really have no shame."

"Do you think they care about what you plebeians say?"

""I know they do not and that is the reason why they should all be kicked out."
