BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES AND LIFE APPLICATION: THE BURDEN OF KNOWLEDGE
Joshua 1:8 - Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Act 2:42 - They devoted themselves to the apostlesí teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
nowledge are facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.
In the Bible, we are told to get Knowledge, Understanding, and Wisdom (God's - not intellectual). Understanding is being able to articulate the information acquired within context, while Wisdom is the application of the Knowledge understood in context.
The Bible (both in the OT and NT) is clear that we get KNOWLEDGE from reading and being taught the WORD and more importantly the revelation of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 10: 17 and John 16: 13). The danger with knowledge (even the WORD) is that, it could be flat out wrong, misinterpreted or taught out of context (perhaps all in good faith or deliberate).
Assuming that we acquire the right knowledge (in context) from God's WORD and we have the Holy Spirit (within us) bringing revelation, we still face APPLYING that KNOWLEDGE against all odds.
As recorded by John (John 14: 23), Jesus said "those who love me, OBEY my commandments", however - we are faced with both internal and external circumstances that hinder us from applying the "right" Knowledge we have acquired through the word and the revelation of His Spirit.
We are faced with Satan (and his demons) and the World System (satan has put in place) to instill FEAR, cast DOUBT and give a wrong interpretation. Many today, have compromised with the World so as NOT to offend the world, hiding their light under a bushel and becoming a bland salt.
We are faced with False prophets, teachers, etc. within the body of Christ (spewing half-truth theology, doctrines etc.), taking advantage of "emotional" Christians, who chooses not to rightly divide themselves (basically be a Berean - Acts 17: 11).
We are faced with our own internal struggle of trying to figure God out, or outright "phobic" fear and convincing ourselves out of God's instruction because it require sacrifice, pain and against our sin nature. Many times the struggle we have within "to Obey God's Word or Not" is more than any external factors that hinders obedience.
We also have the burden of DISOBEDIENCE tugging on our Heart - knowing that, disobedience separates us from God and affects Him using us as branches with "good fruit" for our world. When we disobey (especially as true believers), we also have turmoil or unrest within our spirit, known as "conviction" of the Holy Spirit.
We run the risk of SEVERED heart, if we get used to NOT applying the Knowledge we've learnt through God's Word and ignoring Holy Spirit conviction (Romans 1: 28)
It is my prayer that our KNOWLEDGE would NOT stand against us in Judgment, that our KNOWLEDGE would NOT make us puff up (1 Corinth. 8: 1) rather God's love (John 14: 23) would help us apply the Knowledge we have acquired to the Glory of our Heavenly Father.
