ulti- millionaire, attention-seeking mogul and New York spoilt brat, Donald Trump is back at his game of using the Media to promote himself and his business by telling the world he wants to run for President because he strongly believes like Adolf Hitler that falsehood repeated, over and over again, is more often than not accepted as the truth by the fickle-minded who are still in denial that America finally got her first minority Commander –in- Chief and leader of the free world by a miracle that only God can fully explain. Donald Trump, for all his claim to being a smart Alec, is one of them. His motivation for repeatedly seeking the presidency can hardly be compared to that of Ross Perot who fought the good fight to nudge America to embrace change for the right reasons.

Donald Trump by signifying interest in the presidency automatically becomes a celebrity and he gets free publicity with all the News channels like BBC and CNN covering him because they cannot afford to ignore him as a News-maker. Why? Because strange things do happen in American Politics all the time. James Ventura, a tough-talking wrestler and Naval Seal and the least-likely to win, was once elected Governor of Minnesota in similar circumstance, because American Democracy is all about the freedom to choose their leaders without let or hindrance. Arnold “Schwashneggar”, a former body builder and actor once became a 2 term Governor of California and could easily have run for President were he not born outside the United States.

A dead Governor whose name was already on the ballot once got elected Senator in America beating all his living rivals including the Attorney-general of the Government in power. Only in America! Nobody is acutely aware of that phenomenon more than Donald Trump. Even if he does not go ahead to win in 2012, he could still declare victory having promoted himself and his business to high Heavens free of charge by merely throwing his hat to the ring and using his gift of the garb and powerful presence and personality to dominate the debate.

Donald Trump therefore likes to brag that he is one of the smartest dudes in Business circles around the world by turning notoriety into fame and getting away with it. You may well agree to that of you don’t subject all of his business ethics and so-called wizardry, like I do, to more intense scrutiny. For him to conclude that his genius at self-promotion ought to qualify him to run and be elected President against a candidate like Barack Obama may be pushing his luck too far in my opinion because all he knows is cutting corners and making money.

Profit motive is what drives Donald Trump. He is in the business of making money for himself and that is not going to change if by any fluke he becomes President. He is not the type to wait till after he leaves office like most ex- Presidents do before he starts making his money. He has an addiction for making money. That is where the big conflict may arise as he tries to juggle his obligations as President with his unrepentant penchant for making money. If you think a cross section of the world does not trust America right now, you haven't seen anything yet. Wait till the very smart President Trump takes over the White House.

The way you run a business venture may be similar in some ways to the way you run a country but I can tell you as a Political Science major and as I know the first American President, George Bush with a Master’s degree from the Harvard School of Business would tell you. Running a country as complex and culturally and demographically diversified as America is a completely different ball game. Donald Trump may not know that until reality hits him in the face like most candidates before him.

You don’t immediately file for bankruptcy in governance, if things don’t go your way or play games like Donald Trump simply did when his Hotels and Casino Empire went bankrupt a few years back or when there is a lull in high stake Real Estate business from where Donald has made his fortunes after taking over the real estate conglomerate from his father. He survived that setback by cutting corners and pulling a fast one on his competitors. If governing a nation were like that, Presidents like Richard Nixon otherwise known as Tricky Dicky would certainly have survived Watergate, and Spiro Agnew his first Vice would not have had to resign with ignominy under pressure. Spiro Agnew would have gone ahead to succeed Richard Nixon as President.

The skills and the expertise you need to succeed as President are far more complex, sophisticated and down-to Earth than the Houdini pretensions of a Donald Trump and the bimbo eruptions that could possibly trail his presidency from the “get go” if nominated and elected by a miracle. I have to say that because America has on a few occasions in her checkered history, elected a few unlikely Presidents like Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama to mention a few.

I think American voters unlike voters in third world countries like Nigeria are smarter than Donald Trump may be giving them credit for. I take the position that Donald Trump is really not as smart as he wants the whole world to believe. If he truly is, he would do a few things differently from the way he is doing them now. It was Richard Nixon who once said how you campaign in American Politics is a far cry from how you govern. According to the Nixon doctrine, “you campaign in prose and you govern in poetry” or you “triangulate” like Dick Morris or James Carvel and Bill Clinton once did to save his presidency and to win a second term on a platter of gold despite Monica Luwenski and some other baggage he had to confront in his 8 golden years as President, if we now look back in time to compare his tenure with those of Jimmy Carter, George Bush the First and the Second.

Donald Trump who is more likely to treasure the glamour of that office more than the substance and the challenges of it, all things considered, may be desperately doing what he figures could tip the balance of the Republican nomination marathon in his favor by trying to be more roman catholic than the Pope and by siding with the Tea Party and the Birthers’ flank of the Republican Party to eliminate more experienced candidates like Mitt Romney, Paulenty, Haile Barbour, Huckabee, Newt Gingrich and others who may yet emerge from the shadows because they think Barack Obama may be vulnerable and beatable in 2012.

Donald Trump’s desire to be the chief spokesman or mouth organ for the Tea Party crowd may have informed his silly and naive decision to be raising more doubts in the minds of Republicans in particular who will believe anything said about Barack Obama because his election as President came to them as the greatest shock. They are still in denial that the man actually won in 2008 beating John McCain who was born in Panama but was qualified to run for President unlike Obama whom the Republicans would want to impeach or criminalize if Donald Trump could help them prove he was not an a bona fide American. They don’t want to hear that Obama’s mother was born in Kansas and that Obama was actually born in Hawaii, the 49th or the 50th state of America.

The Republicans were still living in the past and they have refused to admit or acknowledge that times have changed in America and that McCarthyism in America has given way to a multi-racial Democracy where the minorities in America like the Blacks and Hispanics, Mexicans and Cubans to mention a few have suddenly found their voices in a way that the nihilists in the Republican Party could never fully understand or believe till tomorrow

That is one reason Obama is going to tower head and shoulders above all of his rivals in the two major political parties and that is why he is definitely going to win again because he is still the best candidate to beat in this election despite the scam that Donald Trump is hoping to prove against him as a Kenyan man who miraculously walked his way to the American presidency in 2008 while putting the whole nation in a state of delirium or amnesia. The move remains a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury but signifying nothing. The move could backfire on the Republicans in 2012 because it is a smoking mirror at best.

Donald Trump therefore joining the Hallelujah boys in the Republican Party to continue to raise some doubts about the country of origin of Barack Obama this late in the game is not only dumb but bizarre, insane and laughable to say the least. It is very nice to note that Barack Obama and his supporters across the nation have chosen not to dignify the innuendo and distraction by formally responding to it.

Barack Obama is going to be judged by the changes he has promised and the modest changes he has delivered in four years of hard work as a down payment for greater positive changes to come in his second term which is all but guaranteed, with his popularity among the independents whose support is going to be the game changer in 2012 from all we can see today.

It is alright and easy to criticize the incumbent president because most would-be candidates to the American presidency could never truly appreciate the enormity and the full ramifications of the burden of that office until they actually get elected. I am positive that Donald Trump would be singing a completely different tune, if he ever becomes President. Barack Obama would be the first to tell you it was easy to criticize George Bush prior to his winning the presidency. Once he got to that office he now knows that “khaki no be leather” like they say in Nigeria and that George Bush was probably not as dumb as Obama once thought.

If Donald Trump goes to that office with only the mind set of a ruthless business man that he is, he is surely going to have an uphill task as President. Let Donald Trump not make any mistake about that.

That I am writing this should not be misconstrued to mean that I am saying that some of the points made by Donald Trump with regard to China and the economy are totally misplaced. They are not. Donald Trump has some very valid points in making that case and putting the blame on the rise in the cost of crude oil on OPEC while at the same time putting part of those blames squarely on Barack Obama and his Administration.

My position is that the Economic woes of America which have taken several years to pile up, cannot be totally dismantled or wished away in only four years. Barack Obama is definitely doing as much as could be expected of him, given the complex nature of American Politics and the imperatives of a divided Government which is what Americans in their wisdom have always preferred. The situation here is not like the situation in Nigeria and the third world where one party controls the Executive, the Legislature, the Judiciary and the Fourth Estate of the Realm thru policies and obnoxious regulations and Laws The PDP still wants to continue to rule Nigeria despite its abysmal track record in office. Obama is by no means perfect and there is still room for improvement here and there, but he has done pretty good job for a first term President and he surely deserves re-election barring any unforeseeable problems and a sudden downturn in the modest economic recovery that America has so far achieved under his presidency.

Donald Trump ought to acknowledge that in much the same way like Ross Perot another smart, rich and credible candidate, like him, had done when he ran as a third party candidate against George Bush and Bill Clinton. Ross Perot did not go around claiming to be a smart Alec like Donald Trump when he ran for that office. He definitely made a good impression on American voters and he ran a far more disciplined campaign than Donald Trump at this point in the game. Donald Trump’s antics are designed to distract Obama and to self-promote.

That is all there is to it. Obama should remain focused on his goal. He is going to laugh last and laugh best without any question in my mind.
