ANGLICANISM AND CHRISTENDOM UNDER TEST

roblems galore are dogging the secular and spiritual realms of society. The recent approval of the US ecumenical communion of a gay Bishop for New Hampshire, Canon Gene Robinson, is threatening a schism within the Anglican Church worldwide. The Holy Bible has been subjected to intense scrutiny under the present circumstance and Christendom undeniably is undergoing a gradual metamorphosis from the Way of God to becoming the Way of the World.

The issue of gay and lesbian Christians has been causing ripples for quite a while with conservative Christians barely making passing remarks. The Canadian province of Ontario recently passed a law allowing gay marriages to hold. Slowly but surely, a new jargon called 'covenanted relationship' is being introduced into the Christian life, and conservative Christians are under fire from the soldiers of the 'god of this world' who have infiltrated the hierarchy of the Church, be it Roman Catholic, Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostals, and assorted Christian denominations that dot the various nations of the world.

Only the unscriptural will not fail to notice that Christianity lost a major hold on its adherents when permissiveness and liberalism were accepted as basic norms of the civilized society. In the process, Western societies threw away one of the fundamental pillars of good ethos: a circumscribed set of moral laws hinged on the Bible. Dynamically, Christian laws, which hitherto directed western societies, were and are being compromised with those enacted by uninspired minds of the learned profession, causing a dilution in the moral behavior of society. Rationalizations and intellectual exercises now hold sway and the Body of Christ is experiencing disharmony that negates effective evangelization and fellowship.

Myriads of Orders and Secret societies are allowed to thrive, although their tenets go against the conduct expected in a hitherto Christian society. Even the US, in its avowed declaration of "In God We Trust", lent credence to its open society philosophy by allowing sundry faiths to thrive. In the process, quacks and irreligious groups were allowed to mushroom in society to the extent that Churches whose beliefs are clearly satanic are allowed open space in society and in public institutions!

How about some Churches who, in their warped interpretation of the Holy Bible, pick only verses of scripture that suit their fancy? And the so-called New Testament Churches that denigrate other Churches that do not follow a mode of worship similar to theirs? They selectively ignore the admonition that the internal man (In spirit and in truth) is the requirement needed in the worship of God? Yet, some of these New Testament Churches allow women to be Pastors? Where in the Holy Book was ordination of women pastors quoted? Is it not common day occurrences to find women as pastors and co-pastors with their husbands in some Pentecostal Churches? Christianity must wake up to her responsibility of following the letter and spirit of the Word as spelt out holistically in the Bible.

Christian liberalism is breeding a cloned humanity that sees nothing perverse in having homosexuals and women as Shepherds in God's kingdom? In the lust for equality, women pastors ignore the unscriptural basis of their call? Hypocrisy in the Church of God was never tolerated by the Savior of mankind, Jesus Christ. Why, now should man believe in his own wisdom that he should worship God the way he feels, and not the way God feel? It all goes to show that Satan, the god of this world, has made inroads into the Body of Christ.

The Anglican Communion led the way in the 1970's when women were allowed to be ordained in Scotland, casting doubts on the basis of the anchor of Christianity in the modern world. Later, Dr Rowan Williams, a Welsh Druid, who supported the ordination of a gay priest, took over as the Archbishop of Canterbury last spring. As if the latter were not sufficient for Christendom to digest and redress, then celibate priests were found to have been fondling young boys or sleeping with parishioners. The wave of law suits in this regard is sweeping away the Roman Catholic treasury in the US and causing the faithful to have doubts in the salvation preached by pedophiles from such pulpits. Now, a gay bishop is approved for an Episcopal/Anglican diocese.

What is going on in Christendom? It is a collision of liberalism with the Word of God. Christianity is being systemically desecrated and debased. Homosexuals, sexual deviants and pedophiles have infiltrated the Church and wielding unbelievable influence on the clergy and the laity for the sole purpose of smearing the Christian religion.

When and if the Holy Bible is no longer accepted as the Last Court of Appeal regarding the faith and conduct of the Christian, then Christianity would have suffered a major blow from the Devil in its cause to win lost souls into the kingdom of God. Those whom God has charged to rule over the Church of God in various stations have the task of defending the Word with fervency and zeal. They must, as a matter of urgency, summon a meeting of the World Council of Churches to redirect the focus of the Christian world.
