1 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - A Super Eagles' renaissance?
The big question at this jucture is, what happened to the indigenous coaches, in the light of the latest challenges facing the Super Eagles? In other words, why is it preferable to go for a foreign coach for the Super Eagles, at this time?
2 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - Celebrating John Mikel Obi: The Super Eagles' mid-field maestro and skipper, at twenty-nine!
Skipper John Mikel Obi is a player that fascinated and still fascinates yours sincerely; right from his early soccer days with the Junior national teams, till this day. A highly talented player who had the rare distinction of having represented Nigeria, at the: under - 17; under-20 and senior world cup tournaments!
3 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - NFF: The interim coaches' arrangement for the Super Eagles of Nigeria is a certain recipe for another failure!
The net sum of these rather disturbing discordant tunes from Nigeria's soccer authorities, is that Nigeria's soccer ship, can be likened to a ship drifting at high sea, without a captain; and with the concomitant risks associated with that rather unfortunate state!
4 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - AFCON 2017: Another failure for the Super Eagles of Nigeria
How did Nigeria, a country so richly blessed in soccer talents and with a rich, glorified history in soccer, fall to this unenviable level? How are the mighty fallen? What really went wrong with Nigeria, more especially in the last six years? Is it a case of failed soccer administration? Or rather pure soccer technical/tactical mismanagement, no thanks to the greater use of indigenous coaches, in the last six years?
5 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - NFF: Please, no more tardiness in the appointment of a substantive Super Eagles coach
The NFF chairman, no doubt, favours the appointment of a foreign coach, but this choice is, apparently, not popular with the sports minister, who was reported to have told the NFF boss to send him a report within ONE MONTH, justifying the necessity for a foreign coach. My misgivings ... are as follows: Who appoints the Super Eagles coach, the NFF or the sports minister?; Does the sports minister, realise the urgency required in appointing a substantive Super Eagles coach....
6 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - Johan Cruijf: Adieu to a legendary footballer!
The soccer player Johan Cruijf, was at the peak of his game in the seventies. He played and enjoyed unmitigated success with Ajax FC of Amsterdam, the Netherlands and later on with FC Barcelona of Spain. He was a leading member of the Netherlands national soccer team: the 'Oranje,' that captivated all and sundry with their peculiar brand of attacking soccer, christened:' Total football,'....
7 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - John Okon Ene: The dimunitive mid-fielder ...Adieu!
John Okon Ene, was a highly talented mid-fielder, who plied his trade with the Calabar Rovers and the BCC Lions of Gboko. However, my best memories of him, was when he played for Nigeria's under-20 side, the Flying Eagles, at the African qualifying series of the 1987 under-20 World cup competition and the 1987, under-20 World cup competition, in Chile.
8 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - Super Eagles of Nigeria: Remembering the 4-0 'demolition' of the Egyptians in 1977
The Super Eagles of Nigeria, took on the "Pharaohs" of Egypt, in the final round robin series, to determine the only African representative to the 1978 World Cup competition in Argentina. The Super Eagles qualified for the final elimination series together with Tunisia and Egypt.
9 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - The rather surprising resignation of Coach Sunday Oliseh
The reasons given by Coach Oliseh for resigning, bordered mainly on what can be summarised as unfavourable working conditions. The question at this juncture is: which indigenous coach has functioned in optimal circumstances, as Super Eagles coach? It has always been problems galore for the indigenous coaches during their time as Super Eagles coaches; and they never gave up and trudged on and with sometimes very impressive results to the bargain.
10 Nigeriaworld Feature Article - Coach Sunday Oliseh should please watch his steps, before it becomes too late!
Coach Oliseh [should] not to take those disparaging criticisms personally; he should cast them off his person and concentrate effectively on his job. By the time Nigeria posts at least four points out of a maximum of six against Egypt, and takes over leadership of their Nations cup qualifying group, ... those criticasters, would be forced to leave Coach Oliseh alone for now.
