NFF reveals World Cup programme, plans six friendlies for Super Eagles


 

The Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday in Lagos announced its 2018 FIFA World Cup program for the Super Eagles.

In the announcement, the NFF revealed venues and dates for the six pre-World Cup friendly matches, kit launch, camping programmes and venues, the team base camp, sponsors' event and how the team will travel during the World Cup finals holding in Russia.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick unfurled the entire program at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, immediately after the contract signing with Coca-Cola.

The program explained that the Eagles will play Poland, Serbia, Democratic Republic of Congo, England, Czech Republic and a yet-to-be-named South American team on the way to the World Cup finals in Russia.

The team's first phase camping will hold in Abuja or Uyo between 22nd and 30th May, while the second phase camping will hold at a health resort in Austria 3rd - 11th June.

The close camp at the Eagles' official World Cup team base camp is at Yessentuki, Stavropol Territory in Russia's southern region, starting 11th June.

The Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday announced three more international friendly matches for the Super Eagles ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Nigeria will play Serbia, Czech Republic and DR Congo before hitting the Eurasian country to make their sixth appearance at the world 's football showpiece.

The NFF had earlier confirmed the three-time African champions would play Poland in Warsaw on March 23 and England on June 2.

But the federation's president Amaju Pinnick said in Lagos the Eagles would take on Serbia in London on March 27.

He said the team, who have reached the second round of the World Cup thrice (1994, 1998, 2014), would receive DR Congo in Abuja or Uyo on May 28 before travelling to Austria, where they begin their second phase camping, to engage Czech Republic on June 6.

Pinnick said the Eagles would face a South American team in a friendly affair before the World Cup.

Nigeria are Group D alongside Croatia, Iceland and South American powerhouse Argentina.

The Eagles open their Russia 2018 World Cup campaign against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium in Kaliningrad on June 16.
