STRANGER THAN FICTION, BUHARI'S GOVERNMENT FIXING THE FACTS,
ABOUT FULANI HERDSMEN TERRORISM

advertisement

“Through error, misjudgment and an inability to recognize the scope of the evil confronting us, we failed to do our part to help save the people of Srebrenica from the [Bosnian] Serb campaign of mass murder.” Kofi Annan UN Secretary General 1999

he the escalation of Fulani herdsmen terrorism resulting in the massacre of innocent Nigerians at Agatu, Enugu etc., and the rather recalcitrant and intransigent attitude of northern (Fulani) leaders raises very grievous issues about the continued existence of Nigeria with a strong federal government.

The attempt by the Buhari administration to fix the facts of the on going pogrom in Enugu and many other places and absolve Fulani militia of the crime they have committed by detailing Enugu state governors to issue a statement denying the facts, is to say the least, depraved, ominous and unconscionable.

More intriguing is the attempt to deny that the governor had a conversation with the president as reported. One wonders why the government is more interested in fixing the facts of the crime, instead of finding those responsible for the heinous crime and bringing them to justice as any honest and, sincere government would, under the circumstance.

The Nigerian president, governor of Enugu state and the security agencies, who are the people in position to prevent these crimes will have to try harder to come up with more plausible story as to why they allowed a crime they were aware was being planned to take place.

  1. They know who these Fulani militias and herdsmen are.

  2. They know where they are and the owners of the cows they herd.

  3. They knew that the Fulani militia were planning an attack against innocent villagers, who they have been elected and appointed to protect.

  4. They know that these Fulani herdsmen graze their cattle on farm lands with impunity.

  5. They know that the Fulani militia carry assault weapons openly in a country, where carrying such arm by civilians is unlawful.

  6. They know how the militia gets their weapons and who bought their motorcycles and pays for their ammunitions.

  7. They know that the militia belong to the same ethnic group and religion as President Muhamnadu Buhari and that there are videos in the social medial, which shows Fulani militia boasting that they are at war to kill infidels and take their land. Since the attack, the Buhari led federal government of Nigeria has done nothing to ensure that the perpetrators of these crimes do not continue to retain the capacity to attack any village at will.

  8. They have also not taken any step to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime against humanity to justice.

I am alarmed because the behaviour of the President Buhari is exactly the way President Omar Bashir of Sudan was behaving at the beginning of the genocide in Darfur and president Slobodan Milosevic of Serbia before the genocide of Sebrenicia in 1995. It is the same denial of facts by those in position to prevent and condemn the act.

Rather, the federal government of Nigeria is more interested in laundering its image and has issued a statement absolving those whose responsibility it is to prevent these crimes against humanity of any culpability.

Whatever the government says does not remove the facts that it has blood on its hands and is responsible for allowing these killing to take place.

The only thing which the government needs to do, which it has refused to do, is disarm the Fulani militia and tell them to go about their business in lawful ways and manner like every other person. They have failed to ensure that the law about the possession of weapons in Nigeria applies to Fulani militia and herdsmen.

All that Buhari, as the president of Nigeria and chairman of cattle owners association of Nigeria, has to do, to end this pogrom, if he is honest with his intentions,

  1. is call off the Fulani militia and disarm them.

  2. Reassure the victims and compensent them for their losses

  3. Give up his jihad, and hatred of Igbos and his plan to make them pay for not voting for him during last election.

It is difficult to be silent, when I know that there are armed Fulani militia and herdsmen lurking in bushes waiting to attack defenceless victims at will and the government knows, where they are and has the capacity to stop them but refuses. How can I keep quiet, when I have seen videos of Fulani militia with AK 47and rounds of ammunitions, standing beside bodies of their victims, boasting of their intention to kill more people?

A genocide, crime against humanity is taking place in Nigeria under the watch of president Muhammadu Buhari, a Fulani from north Nigeria who is an arch Islamist and he has so far not responded in the way a sincere and honest leader, without intention to benefit from the terror would. Let it be known that President Buhari and his government will be held accountable for this crime against humanity.

It is very sad that Enugu state governor has accepted to be a willing tool in the hands of the federal government and Fulani oligarchy in this evil conspiracy to embellish the facts of this pogrom. By issuing a statement contradicting the truthful facts of this matter, he had shredded his credibility and removed every single reason to believe he has any integrity.

His statement denying the facts is a demonstration of his lack of conviction, resolve, candour and courage to act in the best interest of the people he is elected to protect is a tragedy.

His action makes him unfit to occupy the position of governor and he should do the only honourable thing left, resign, so that a leader who has what this time demands can take his place.

He cannot be a leader, when he defends those who are shedding the blood of innocent Nigerian citizens. He is committing sacrilege.

He is collaborating with those who allowed this tragedy to occur. There can be no greater betrayal. This demonstrates how complex and sinister the intentions of those behind this evil.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuenyi is a man who shed crocodile tears for the victims of the massacre and then went straight to conspire with those who failed to prevent the atrocity to cover it up. He is a disappointment to say the least.

I call on president of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Retired General Mohammadu Buhari to recognise that he was not elected to advance the interest of Islam and the Fulanis of north Nigeria. I plead with him to government for whole Nigeria and value the life of every citizen and order the disarming of Fulani herdsmen to end this pogrom. He should have no doubt that everyday he allows Fulani herdsmen to carry weapon and commit crimes against humanity that he has blood on his hands.
