A BRIEF MESSAGE TO PRESIDENT BUHARI

t is gratifying that you're fine tuning the national orientation. The Nigerian Diaspora monitors closely, and with keen interest your effort in detaching Nigeria from the ugly past. As a concerned citizen, and an incurable optimist of a great Nigeria, I want to admonish you, Change is not easy. Change is recalcitrant and nauseating but endurance for sustainable development brings equitable and a just society.

You should as a matter of urgency reroute for vibrant, smart and well-informed individuals to sell your vision. It should be conveyed in a very clear and explicit language to the ordinary man in Kuge; the market woman in Ibadan and the rural and urban people in Okrika. The envisioned individuals can discern the difficult but necessary road you take now. We have collectively vowed to make your predecessor's administration our last collective journey to the ugly past.

Meanwhile, a hungry man is an angry man. No matter how laudable your economic programme and policy might be, the ordinary people on the streets ain't going to buy them. The plebeians need to be psychologically assisted by cushioning the harrowing effects of your austerity measures on them. They also need to be conscientized and reassured that it's going to be better on the long run. Do not play into the noxious hands of your adversaries.

Some people are completely uninformed about your well-intentioned destination for Nigeria. This is a difficult time, and a defining moment in our nation's history. We appreciate your unrepentant body language to dealing with the corrupt people in Nigeria. But you need to sell your products (administration's policies) to the people.

At this time, your war on corruption should have a human face to alleviate the suffering of the innocent people in Nigeria. Those who have stolen our money should feel the pain of this historic and unconventional war on their corrupt practices.

Your plans encompass discipline, incorruptible stance, and it is unprecedented in the anal history of Nigeria. This is the first time Nigeria will have a genuine leadership with a purpose-driven agenda of a better Nigeria.

Let's me use this opportunity to infuse the minds of our country's men and women with this simple message, and to disabuse the minds of all your adversaries and pessimists:

The future of Nigeria remains very bright! All we need now is to break away from the ugly past; shatter the cocoon of hatred, ethnocentrism, egocentricism, bigotry, corruption and sense of hopelessness. Your adversaries should tear the mask of aversion! Get out of fixated mindset on resentment and the 'pull him/her down syndrome'.

Let's stop being the prisoners of the past but victors and free citizens of a promising future. Nigeria is on the threshold of history, God spare our lives, we shall be victors, not pessimists of the Nigerian future. Let's stay positive and optimistic. Life is just beautiful if our mind is beautiful, and let's believe in the shared values of our great nation.

We support your well-focussed-effort-driven administration in this difficult time. You just have to succeed! Nigeria must succeed, failure shouldn't be in your political arsenal. The bible explicitly says: "For yet a little while, and he that shall come, and will not tarry." Hebrews 10:37. Buhari seems to tarry in this difficult time; and he will not tarry on the long run. This period is just a short window of opportunity and time to our near utopia or promised destination.
