THE CHAIN OF CHANGE (POEM)

advertisement

ut of the wedlock of greed comes the Nigeria's Progressives,
Who while residing in the castle of the umbrella,
Felt cheated and neglected by the caretakers of then.
In the sharing of the proceeds of corruption.

A meeting of the offended is summoned by senior political touts.
At the mansion of embezzlement and one Nigeria.
To map a way forward for the return to official thievery.
To an unholy way of life that has become their 'secunda natura'.

An impious agreement was reached for a catchy word of deception,
At the assembly of the uncaring and unrepentant looters.
For lies are better wrapped up in the foil of apparent truth.
For an easy embrace by the unsuspecting and gullible crowd.

'Change' became the weapon of conquer and campaign pre-election era.
The progressives bombarded the airwaves with the choral of change.
That made Handel a junior composer when compared to his progressives' counterpart.
All in the bid to fool the "foolables" of our society.

Unprepared, the change chanters marched on into Aso Rock.
For the prestigious prize of leadership and good governance.
Then I paused to asked: a change from what to what?
For I saw among the change chanters the ugly elements: confusion and chain.

The Head Changer is a Fulani and a Senior Herdsman.
His Assistant; a Law Professor, Pastor and a 'Mere' Commissioner.
The leaders of the supporters club are: the Lion of Bourdillon and the "Olori" of Ota Farm.
And together they have tied the Nigerian masses with the Chain of Change.

Before change came, Federal Character was pronounced in the Nigerian Constitution.
Before change came, freedom of speech was a Human right in Nigeria.
Before change came, the Fulani Herdsmen were ordinary Nigerians.
But the arrival of change has awakened us to the dawn of everyday wonder and surprise.

Before change came, Islam was a religion in Nigeria not a 'Super Religion'.
Before change came, judicial orders were sacrosanct and obeyed.
Before change came, Our Presidents didn't double as Foreign Affairs Ministers.
But the coming of change has tipped the balance of equation to the negative.

Our Father who art a Fulani is confused and mean.
For him, the cry of anguish of non-Moslems in Nigeria is a mere rant of infidels.
And thanks to the chain of change wrapped around our necks as Nigerians,
We have been transfigured from citizens of Nigeria to immigrants in the Fulani Republic of Nigeria.

When shall we be free from this chain of change?
At what point will enough be enough in this new Nigeria?
Remember: change is a double-edge sword; it can be positive or negative.
Our own change has become too negative that a revolution seems the only solution reasonable.

I Rest My Case.
