TRIBUTE TO GODWIN OLUSEGUN KOLAWOLE AJAYI (GOK), S.A.N
- A LEGEND OF HISTORY

OK! GOK! GOK!; the Odole of Ile-Ife; the existential great man of LAW;

What can I say that others have not said better?

How can I describe GOK that others have not done?

Yet, he has a place in my heart; that he was aware of when alive.

We were close as close as people can be despite the 22 years difference in our ages.

He shared with me his intimate secrets;

He knew me, maybe more than any other person;

Our intimacy was beyond relationship;

We just knew we can count on each other;

Unfortunately we did not see ourselves for months until his death;

I was out of the Country since June 2013 and only came back January 2014;

We spoke few times when I was away; when I returned, we spoke twice on phone;

He made a request for me to see him but I could not make it on the day, but promised to see him the next week.

I wish I had tried to see him that day; the next week that I promised was too late.

He was not around not knowing he was battling for his life.

When my repeated phone calls to him was unanswered and he did not call back;

it dawned on me something serious was wrong with his health.

All I could do was to pray for God's intervention and mercy;

I could not get to see him until the news of his death reached me.

He was there for me when my mother passed-on in 2011;

He was there for my 60th birthday; there is nothing I did that he did not show his support.

He did promise to attend my daughter's wedding but God had another plan for him.

I will forever cherish your friendship GOK;

I will forever cherish your love;

I will forever cherish your memory;

GOK was a unique human being;

Highly distinguished and a rare gentleman, when there is scarcity of gentlemen;

He was highly disciplined, intelligent, honest with a solid character and integrity;

He had an excellent disposition, very rare among men.

He wanted to be a 'Doctor', but his father encouraged him, rather forced him to be a Lawyer.

As a disciplined son, he yielded to his father and read Law.

God honored him as he honored his father. He distinguished himself as a S.A.N, the pinnacle of his profession.

He was excellent in whatever he did. He was such a 'Gem'. He was an Icon; a legend of history.

I have more to say but will pause here for now: Adieu! Adieu! Adieu! beloved GOK

I believe God answered the prayer of the Saints though not in the way we want but in His own way to give Chief GOK Ajayi, the needed and desired rest. I know nothing can separate him from the Love of Christ that he believed in; (Romans 8: 38-39). Chief GOK Ajayi loved God and humanity. He was loyal to the Church of Christ, his family, and his friends. Good Night great man, REST IN PEACE. I will greatly miss you. To Tola, Bola, his other nucleus and extended family; I say be comforted because he rests in the bosom of the Almighty Lord. It is indeed well.
