THE LAST PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA

advertisement

Jonathan has his own faults but he did achieve great things for Nigeria and it is unjust to ignore all he did and blame him to the world. There were problems in Nigeria when Jonathan suddenly became President. He didn't blame the military or Yar'adua. He just tried his best. No matter what anyone says to the world about Goodluck Jonathan, the world also has its way of getting independent information on Nigeria. Hate him or love him, Jonathan has left giant footprints in eternity's sands of time! No eraser is strong enough to make them indelible (Senator Ben Bruce)

e is a leader with a human heart. At each time there was loss of lives, I was told he cried bitterly in his room.

At some point, being who he is, he lost control of things. He could not manage the heat from those who were bent on bringing him down. He was not just the usual Nigerian politician; he had not enough lies to counter the lies manufactured in historical lie factories. At some point, he carelessly let out the truth, and instead of to reason with him, same truths were used against him.

He did everything to make the north a better place and in doing that even neglected his own region.

To combat Boko Haram, he considered so many options. When "Lying Liars" said the insurgents were offspring of uneducated almajiris, he built hundreds of "Almajiri Schools" in the north, yet not up to 10 in his own region. When they said it was because people were idle in the north, he improved agricultural practices, and we had bread made from cassava and more. When they said the military had no arms, he bought arms amidst international sabotage.

Amidst the insurgency, Nigeria became Africa's biggest economy and one of the most preferred business destinations in the world.

All these are gone within 12 months...

When he postponed the election to fight Boko Haram to a stop, they said he planned to rig. Again, he shocked them, people voted even in the north-east and he did not rig. He abandoned his region's call for contention of the elections; he humbly called General Muhammadu Buhari and congratulated him even before INEC announced results. He averted the impending violence and proved to the world that the man Nigerians did not believe in, did believe in Nigeria.

After leaving office, he forgave his detractors. He did what ex-presidents in Nigeria do not do; he never criticized the present government. His speeches have been that Nigerians should be patient with president Buhari. Yet the Buhari's administration has done everything to discredit him, criticized him even without proper investigations, and has maligned him in so many ways.

You may not like Goodluck Jonathan but you cannot deny the fact that he is an epitome of a gentleman. A leader with subtle aura, an enigma of rare charisma, a politician with the soul of a clergy, a loving and faithful husband, perhaps the best example of someone who understands the phrase "For Better or Worse"... He is everything a wife will want, and everything a child would want in a father.

He is no orator, not so stylish and perhaps has no swag, but he is a fine gentleman with a humble soul. A leader who is not groomed for the African soil! Little wonder we called him weak. We are used to leaders that have no human feelings...

Wherever you are President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, know that Nigeria misses you. Know that the market women miss you. Know that commercial motorists miss you. Know that those who yearn to have their voices heard without intimidation miss you; know that even our naira misses you. Know that every region in this country now misses you including those that did not want you.

After you, we are yet to have a president. We have someone in Aso Rock occupying your position but we wished we had a president on that seat instead...

Thank you for showing the world that we understand democracy and can practice it if we take the right decisions....and wherever you are Sir, please smile because the trains are back again and someone who said you did nothing as president, commissions them in numbers daily.... Looking back, I am glad ?#?IDidNotVoteChange?
